I come back to this forum in part for anthropological reasons. What people say about colleges reflects their understanding of the future. There’s a lot of fear here, and a lot of people trying to mitigate their with certainty. That’s interesting, and it says something about human beings generally, and about this moment in time.

Then to tell us that your kid or the roommate has drama/failing/depressed/addiction. Then to ask about the internships. Then to ask about how many times it is ok for your kid to come back home. Then to talk about the hookup culture. Then to ask how much money he should be given. Then this. Then that. Then you will cry about AI taking away the jobs. Then his love life. Then should you pay for his wedding. Then job. Then kids.

It is never ending. And foolish parents think that college admission is where it ends. NOPE. And if you were waiting to divorce your spouse, well, don't do it. Because you will mess up your kid.

And once they have kids...should you provide childcare? Allow them to live rent-free for some years so that they can have a chance for a future?

Haha!! I was at the brink having moved out and involved lawyers for a MSA. Finally decided against it, for my kids, even after they have emptied the nest, they still need a place for breaks and refuge.

Not from the DMV but this forum has been informative, especially since I live in an area where people don’t talk about certain schools or certain things (like SLAC’s, OOS flagships, hooks, and ED strategy) so much. Not being from the DMV allows me to appreciate the information in the forum without the stress that many of you and your kids seem to be under. Maybe my kid’s SAT score would have been better, maybe they might have had more AP’s, if they had grown up in the DMV…there is competition where we are but nothing like what parents and kids in the DMV, NY-metro, and Bay Area/Silicon Valley face.
