+1. My daughter works at Starbucks. She got zilch from the online process, but once she went and talked to the manager of the store they found her online application and she was hired.

+2, from back in the day. Store managers for public-facing jobs often appreciate meeting potential employees in person. If you have an application already on file, all the better.

I'm sorry.

I'm not getting any responses from employers that I think would have hired me immediately a few years ago. It's rough out here.

What about a temp agency?

Just a different perspective here, and I don't know how things work at TJ's. But I worked a retail job at Tysons a few years back and our manager had zero power when it came to people walking in like this; you had to apply online which included an aptitude test, and based on the results of that test -- I think people scored "highly desirable" "acceptable" and "not acceptable" or something -- corporate told her who to interview. We were incredibly understaffed and they wouldn't let her interview anyone who did not score "highly desirable." It was a PITA. But people would come in all the time wanting to meet with our managers about jobs, and the only thing they could say was "apply online." We hated it when people would wander in wanting a job -- it took time to deal with them and even during times that didn't look busy, we were busy doing things like inventory.

I remember getting rejected to work at a diner in my crap town, but I didn't have any experience in restaurants.

But I was destined for bigger and better things....keep your head up

I heard is just impossible to apply for a job at Costco. Employees don’t quit and a long line already waiting in line.

They pay well and have great benefits. I was looking there while unemployed. Well worth applying IMO.

+1 I worked retail for a mom and pop shop and they exclusively did applications online, too. Same with one of the bigger gym chains in the area. We'd have people call or come in, and I'd flag it to my manager, but IDK if that made a difference or not.

Have you tried food service? I know many chipotles and pizza shops are hiring. People look down on it but hey you can’t beat free food especially in this economy. I was in the best shape of my life as a server

Honestly, I only take it personal when I go for a in-person interview, think things went great for both and then I get a reject call.

Until then, you're only nothing but a number....

Good luck!

I got hired on the spot in one case, the other they called the next day. I think the online applications go into the abyss, to be honest.

Don’t they tell you to apply online?
Do store managers decide ?

This was 10 years or so ago. But from what I recall, they had me fill out a paper application right then and there.

OP, if you are still looking, I see signs at some stores periodically about open hiring events: the manager essentially sets up a table and interviews whoever comes by. I saw this at Home Goods and TJ Maxx but I’m sure there are others.

I got divorced in a brutal and surprising way as a sahm. I live near Costco HQ on the west coast. I work middling jobs to get by and pay ACA after getting dropped from my DH’s excellent healthcare. My dream is basically to get hired by Costco and work my way up to corporate HQ and/or to get hired at Trader Joe’s, and would be happy to end up at either for the health benefits. Unfortunately I share this dream with everyone within a 100 mile radius.

Apply to MCPS, they always need someone and the health benefits are really good. Co-pays for Cigna health insurance is never more than $25 for doctor visits.

Same, I applied online at Starbucks and got nowhere. Went in to speak to someone and the supervisor had obscure song lyrics tattooed on his arm that I recognized. I pointed them out and he found my application and hired me right then! I didnt even have food experience.
