I’m sorry, but please don’t take it personally. Every retail/food service job I’ve gotten has been from just walking in and asking if they are hiring. I got hired on the spot in one case, the other they called the next day. I think the online applications go into the abyss, to be honest.

Please don’t take it personally. Lots of people have been RIFed, lots of families are hurting, and expensive holidays are coming up. So lots of people are applying to work at Trader Joe’s and other retail businesses just now. If you applied online, it’s likely that they’re overwhelmed with applications right now.

I don’t know how their hiring process works. But the Trader Joe’s store in Friendship Heights is opening soon, so it couldn’t hurt to go directly to that store to see if they’re hiring.

I'm sorry. Do you have a background in retail? I have heard that retail places won't hire you if they think you really want a job doing something else and will quit as soon as you find a job in your actual field. If this is you, maybe consider editing your resume a bit to make it look more related to retail, if you can.

You might also try Target; they are currently hiring seasonal employees so they might be more willing to take a chance on you since it's only designed to be short term. If you actually want to work retail long term, sometimes they'll convert those into permanent jobs if they need more people.
