Looking for a job- rejected by Trader Joe’s

Anonymous
During a long ago recession, I received a rejection letter from Toys'r'Us on Valentine's Day. With a giant smiling Geoffrey the giraffe on it. Saying that they did not now, nor did they ever, anticipate having a position suitable for me. I kept it. The whole situation was just preposterous.

OP, could you say more about the types of jobs that you’re looking for? Would temp agencies or Flex Professionals be options worth exploring?

Go in person and speak to the manager. Introduce yourself and tell them you want a job in their store. Pick a slower time to go, think first thing in the morning shortly after they open.

Try restaurants. We are hiring and can't find workers.
Walking in still works, but make sure to make a great first impression. I had a young man walk in and ask if we were hiring. I said that we were. He handed me his resume at first, but since I didn't look like manager enough, he took it back. He decided to come back later and hand it to the manager.
I have a lot to say who we hire. The resume is still in the office, so he did come back. He can work only two days, but that's not why we won't call him.

At grocery stores you need to go in person and talk to one of the assistant managers or the store manager during a slow time.

For any grocery, restaurant, and retail position you really need to apply in person and try to have a brief conversation with a supervisor when you apply.

You probably were not edgy or quirky enough.

I’m half joking, but every single Trader Joe employee I’ve ever seen has pink or purple hair, piercing, or looks alternative.

I heard is just impossible to apply for a job at Costco. Employees don’t quit and a long line already waiting in line.

Don’t take it personally, you are not the only one. More demands than what is available.

It's the economy. But also make sure your resume isn't screaming "I'm overqualified." If they think you won't stay, they may not want to invest in training you, etc. Retail jobs can be really hard to get w/ significant professional experience.

You can always count on this restaurant advocate to pop up on any post of someone looking for work.

best advise: walk into the store from tuesday to thursday around 2-3PM and ask for the manager. This is after the lunch rush and before the after work rush.

+1. My daughter works at Starbucks. She got zilch from the online process, but once she went and talked to the manager of the store they found her online application and she was hired.
