Do they just...skip a whole week of school? What?

I can't believe my kids have to walk past 1st Class on their way to economy or see the 5-star hotel next to our 4-star while in Geneva on vacation

On the list of things that I find objectionable about the DCSC Travel Program, this wouldn't even register. Nice trip for the kids who can afford it. I wish we could (even if we were currently getting paid), but we can't.

You don't see the big pic, for every 1 fed there are 2-3 non fed staff that will be impacted.

This happens all the time? Why are you acting like you didn’t see this coming? Everyone knew this was going to happen before midterms. It’s called being an adult.

No, you don't see the big picture. Non feds lose their jobs or struggle financially all the time, and none of you are out there saying "Hey! This is so disrespectful to be talking about these expensive opportunities for your kids at a time when some people can't afford to participate."

I live in DC and our family has an HHI of 150k. There is all kinds of stuff that other families take for granted that we struggle to afford or have to do without. And I understand that are families with less than us who probably look at what we have and think it's so much.

You need perspective.

And you think THIS is a good time to suggest an international soccer trip for tweens?

We’re tapping into savings just to keep our kids on enrolled on the team and covering stupid drives to Richmond.

And you turn up the crank and add one more thing we can disappoint our kids over not being able to do??? Because this is needed some how? And this is a good time?

How oblivious can you be?

This is cruel.

It's hard when the world doesn't revolve around you. Guess what? life goes on. So should businesses stop trying to profit since there is a shut down? you understand that this is OPTIONAL? like everything else?

OP thank you for putting on display the classic myopia of liberal entitlement from white collar, high-SES feds, which is throughout the DMV area.

First World Problems.

The pearl clutching and lack of overall empathy is wild. Even if the feelings are real, lacking the social skills or self-awareness to portray it differently for a group audience on the Internet.

OP post is almost as if a Republican operative troll post but sadly it's really from a Democrat.

How many more elections can we afford to lose?

Takoma soccer = $50 a season

You will have $149,850 before taxes factoring in snacks 2x a year. You're welcome!

Soccer is NOT a privilege. There is perspective for you.

No, I am impacted and I am not a fed employee or a government contractor.

I simply have perspective and understand the privileged position I am in despite the current difficult circumstances. A great number of people in this world and this country would want to trade places with me and my kids and type on an anonymous blog their “feelings” of not being able to send this kids to Europe for a soccer vacation.

If no one has ever told you this, please let me be the first, "Your child is not the next coming of Messi or Pele or Maradona. Travel soccer is a non-essential expense. Your child will not be discovered on a soccer trip to Europe. Your child will never play in any of the top leagues in England, France, Spain, Italy or even the Bundesliga in Germany. They will not get a scholarship for soccer to an American college and more than likely not be offered a spot on any D1 roster. What your child will get are some great experiences and friends, a love for an amazing game, a heathy lifestyle, and memories. And if you are lucky, you will get these same things."
