Are you f$&@ing serious DC Soccer?

Are you aware of how many of your families work for the federal government? How many have suffered lay offs or are currently not getting paid with no end in sight???

And you think THIS is a good time to suggest an international soccer trip for tweens?

We’re tapping into savings just to keep our kids on enrolled on the team and covering stupid drives to Richmond.

And you turn up the crank and add one more thing we can disappoint our kids over not being able to do??? Because this is needed some how? And this is a good time?

How oblivious can you be?

This is cruel.

Yikes. Agree.

We have a little tournament in Richmond next week and no one wants to "stay to play". An intenrational trip??!!

I understand that it must be frustrating but lots of us are not federal employees. We are just living our life. If my law firm collapses, I don’t expect other people to stop living their lives.

Haha, dont care.

Most people have a thing called savings they can tap into when needed.

This isn't just a few families.

This isn't just the federal government we are headed to the great depression. International trips for anyone for soccer right now is absurdly ridiculous.

That's great for you, BigLaw Lady. A portion of most soccer teams in the area will have fed parents or contractors not getting paid. This seems pretty tone-deaf.

Wait. You are complaining about paying more for an item that is a luxury to begin with? That you choose to pay for?

Now you know how people feel who can’t afford fees and travel to Richmond ever. Travel sports are for the privileged.

If this is your kid’s biggest disappointment, they are doing fine.

Get some perspective.

+1. Now do you know why people can DC residents tone deaf? There have been mass layoffs and economic turmoil all through the country with many talented kids unable to get basic soccer training.

This is not my circus or my monkeys, however, I think "student" and "team" trips are usually overpriced and mediocre compared to what you can plan on your own.

My family of four went to New York for a week last summer. I saw 6 shows. For the same price, we could send only two of us on a four day trip on one of those "Carnegie Hall" playing experiences.

The only one I let my 2 kids do was a band trip to Disney World for 3 days. Because 2 short student trips was cheaper than 4 of us going (due to high park ticket costs) and the parents didn't want to go. So it saved money. The hotel accommodations were so bad that the travel agency actually refunded $50 and gave a $50 credit voucher after the trip completed.

The trip is entirely optional, and most people in the area don’t work for the government. Plus it’s months away, and the shutdown should be over by then. Seems like this is an overreaction. No one in my household has ever worked for the federal government, but we’ve also never participated in one of these DCSC international trips in five years of having kids playing travel with them.

Your kids aren’t going to die if they can’t go to Europe. Get ahold of yourself.

Each time we have something with fed employees they cry around the corners asking/begging for support… FOH

rest of the mortals need to figure it out when they’re laid off/firloughed/fired and nobody goes around crying like these softies.

This is THE MOST PRIVILEGED $H!+ I have seen in a minute! 🤣😂🤣😂

I hope you had this same energy for average Americans in places like WV, MI, NE, etc. during the pandemic. I remember us comfortably working from our homes, ordering take out sushi and getting major discounts on beach houses in OBX while working remotely while the average American was struggling.

Sometimes you are up, sometimes you are down. We are mostly up and very privileged in this area. If there was ever a post that encapsulates why half of this country feels the way they do, this is it. As someone who is probably from your side of the aisle, I really hope you folks learn from this.
