The Organic Butcher in McLean?

Meat is great. Park down the street and walk. You have legs

I just think the New York strip is an odd choice to test out the organic butcher. You should go for fillets or something else unique. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with a New York strip or even getting it from there but for your first time trying to decide the difference – it’s a pretty basic piece of meat. I’ve never eaten any strip and been like OMG that’s the best strip I’ve ever eaten in my entire life.

Well it was there in the case. Had to pick quick they don't coddle newbies. Also they don't let you take meat to check out yourself in case you steal it, apparently.

I think filet mignon is bland. DH likes it. Do they have real Chateaubriand? Not tied together "tenderloin"?

You should check out their website to explore the meats, etc that they have.

Our PC ordered from there regularly.

Went in this week to take a look. Meat is not as affordable and low-cost as Whole Foods. Did not buy anything.

I go to the one in Bethesda. Had a nit great experience there this weekend - they open at 10am and were sold out of crab cakes when I arrived at 10:25am. Also I requested 1-1.5 inch thick boneless rib eyes and the rib eyes they gave me were over 2” thick (they wrapped them up and handed them to me so I didn’t get a chance to see them until home). When I am paying those prices, I should get what I asked for.

Order and pay online in advance, which both ensures you get what you want and are in and out quickly.

In my experience they sometimes give you more than what you ordered, at least by weight. That may have happened to you, even if you didn't value the thicker cut.

I dislike the parking situation, but it's worth it. I always use them when I need something special (recently I made a stuffed pork loin and they cut it for me so it was easy to stuff and roll).

If I buy hamburger for 2 adult burgers how much to buy? Willing to give them another try. Had burgers yesterday first time in 6 years using Balduccis patties. I thought they were ok but DH said meat was blah. So one last chance...
I was very disappointed with Organic Butcher lamb chops and steaks. Meh meat.

I didn’t do this because I wanted to specific the thickness of ribeye cuts that I wanted. I expect that at a butcher I should get as close to what I ask for as possible (vs buying at the meat counter at whole foods, for example). Whole Foods had lovely ribeyes and crab cakes!

I haven’t found the quality to be superior to meat at Whole Foods, but the one in Bethesda has stuff that I can’t get at WF. Separately, as a French person, I’m used to going to the butcher’s. Honestly this one isn’t great compared to the ones in my home country.

Park in back/on the side. It's much easier than parking in front.

We went to Balduccis first and I went to eyeball the beef and prices.
Was a little put off by the food smell in Organic Butcher. I guess it's garlicky sausage or something.
I guess their core clientele know what they want, not browsers. We got a strip steak. Will see if it's better.
I noticed the boneless rib eye looked better trimmed at Balduccis and was $38 a pound, not $46 as at Organic but maybe it tastes better ?

You really can’t compare to Balduccis…Balduccis is just Safeway with prices marked up. The quality of meat is no better than what you get at your local Safeway.

Someone said they had same supplier?

If you go online, the suppliers/farms are often listed in the product description. Whole chicken is under $20.

Bumping this - no, I don’t work there but for all the people dissatisfied with Organic Butcher, it is worth trying.
