Parents of recruited athletes. Have they committed yet?

What was a FT EC?

Whats your experience?

D1 P4 committed fall of junior year. Very high risk of not getting one of these spots with waiting. Lots of time and energy into the process spring sophomore year through commitment, but then just focus on school and sport for nearly two years. One application, athletic scholarship, I think merit was a possibility to stack at this school, but with very competitive merit, student didn't qualify.

If you have a senior with an offer, it is very risky not to take it at this point (at almost any level). They have to be ok with not getting a roster spot anywhere by keeping options open.

Don't be a dick. OFC it is. Just not as formally as it is with D1.

Do you always sound like a douchey ChatGPT?

DC is a junior and doesn't want to commit until later in junior year. There is some pressure from one school but the others seem to understand. Just started official visits and it is all a little overwhelming.

Is this D1 or lower? I have a potential D3 athlete so trying to figure it all out!

D3 will typically heat up in summer before senior year, with many commitments solidifying in early fall. They need to wait for the D1 process to wrap up to snag those who were holding out for a D1 offer and just missed.

I am curious...are D1 commits taking any steps to ensure they aren't dropped at the last minute?

I know baseball, and personally know 4 D1 commits dropped by the college in October/November of their senior year...or worse, told their kid is no longer on the team when they show up in August.

The transfer portal is just completely screwing up everything, where the coach doesn't know how successful they were in the portal until August...and then it usually means they drop HS commits if they were too successful.

Thank you! My junior is considering a reach D1 school (would not play his sport) or some D3s where he could. Has anyone navigated that before? How does that work?

Will almost certainly need to decide by ED date to get the D3 coach support for admissions. They will use their recruiting spots on students who commit. If the student applies to both without the sports involved, and ultimately ends up at the D3 school, then they can contact the coach to ask about walk on opportunities.
