Did they have to turn down offers from other schools while they waited for this process?

Ugh. We are dealing with this now and it is very stressful. Not sure dc will get into the academy and have to decide whether to turn down merit aid offers (and spots on the team obviously) from other schools.

I’m jealous that you know already. Dc does not
Yes. And yes on all the same application process as all other potential students-- nominations, fitness test, interviews, medical tests.

It was such a roller coaster- strongly suggested my 2nd kid not bother and go to best school. My oldest ended up having a choice of Ivy no team or much less academic schools and play. It was so hot and cold and basically a full-time extracurricular activity.

If they are recruited, they will get in (unless they fail the physical)

Pp. We haven’t been assured that at all. Coach is implying it, but no one else is, and dc is now being pushed to accept other schools or lose the $$ offers. Tough spot

The CFA? How would that be possible?

This was an earlier year, and the uncertainty lasts a few months longer, I'm sorry to tell you. But if it's where a student wants to be, there's no place like it

That’s great to hear! Congrats to your dc! Are they enjoying it? I’d heard the athletes get hazed a bit.

My dc is not 100 percent sold on an academy but is strongly leaning towards it being #1, but the other/non academy coaches are selling and pressuring and it’s hard to know what to do. One coach is promising a decent amount of $ and that they will ‘build the team’ around dc. A lot of smoke…

Congrats! I am curious how your timeline went with Carleton in your sport. I have heard that are not as early recruiting as the NESCACs. How early did your son start the process?

He was getting attention from some NESCAC schools and Vassar starting in June, but once the Carleton coach contacted him in early August, things happened fast. We found this coach to be much more responsive and transparent about everything when compared to other schools. Carleton starts classes a little later than most schools and their ED deadline isn't until 11/15, so that may be why they start pre-reads and campus visits a little later.
