The new plan seeks to ensure that the same core set of advanced classes are offered at every single high school in the county. That is a good thing. We should all work together to make sure MCPS actually delivers, and maybe exceeds?, on this instead endless and pointless fighting. |
DCC people have explained ad nauseum why the direction in which MCPS is moving hurts our schools, and OP just ignored all of it. We can continue explaining it to you, but it's a waste of time because you simply don't care. You know your property values are higher not because your schools are so great but because MCPS sucks at educating Black, EML and low income students. As long as their test scores are terrible you can get more money for your house zoned for a school that has so few from these groups. There is no point arguing with someone who won't admit that they benefit financially from racial inequity and want to continue benefiting financially from it. |
Clearly you aren't paying attention. Those core classes are the basic classe all schools aready have so saying that is a joke. And, those classes are not equal to what is at your school. So, by your arguement, we should cut out all classes except those core classes and everyone will be happy? |
Take race out of it and look at the inequities. DCC families have smaller lot sizes so that plays a huge factor in property taxes. You can fit 2-4 houses in the DCC as in other areas. Also, many DCC homes cost as much or more now. Real issue is they don't want competition. |
| MCPS too large. One size does not fit all. |
+1 This has been pointed out about 50 times on these boards. They do not care. They do not want equity as it is contrary to their financial interests. |
|
How about no magnets and each school has equal course offerings in stem, humanities, and arts? That sounds fair to me. Also, no basing it on “student interest” because that is a bogus cop out.
I wish they would do this but they won’t. |
Then, your child goes to MC to take child development classes or cosa's. Problem solved. Many of the W schools have child development classes. |
How are you planning to fund this? |
Maybe there are certain classes that should be added to the core set? That is fine. Let's do it. More investment in advanced classes at every school will serve the most kids. It doesn't have to be us v them |
It’s struggling, not failed. And it’s poverty. |
I'm so glad you have given the go ahead but many people have already asked for this. MCPS is not doing it. |
Exactly this! If a specialized class or program is not offered at your school, you can go to MC or get a COSA. Problem solved- no need for any of these specialized programs. |
Oh ffs I was agreeing with you that students shouldn't have to travel from their home school to access a core set of advanced classes. You just don't want to hear it and would rather score points. |
In order to make that happen, funding has to come from somewhere, so is your school willing to give up classes so other schools can offer them? |
