No doubt Machado is a deserving candidate for the prize, but I also think the choice of someone fighting autocratic rule and the words of the Nobel committee about the retreat of democracy and the rise of authoritarianism is in part meant as a big FU to one Donald J. Trump.

I will be sick at heart if Trump EVER wins the NPP.

How can it ever be legitimately given to somebody who is unleashing the military on the citizens of his country for exercising free speech???

Even if the strongarming 'peace' deal between Israel and Hamas holds, that still doesn't justify him winning it. He has publicly told the rest of the world that they are crap, and he has publicly stated his desire to unleash military forces on civilian populations AT HOME. He's an insane despot and it would stain the Nobel Prize forever if he was given one.

Maria is very deserving of this honor. So glad they gave the award to her. Past recipients have been questionable, at best.

I still believe Trump is deserving of this award. Perhaps next year.

Last night Trump commented "Thank you Washington Post. Wow!!!" as he shared a Washington Post opinion article: "Yes, Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize." I guess the goal is to imply that it was written by the Post editorial board. In fact it was written by resident Trump bootlicker Marc Thiessen.

The peace prize should be for people who advance peace, not democracy. And it certainly shouldn’t be used as an FU to anyone. This is about as serious as the Academy Awards which end up just being some political award that doesn’t actually matter anymore.

Can you honestly look at Trump and all his actions s and say that!

Do you think the Nobel Peace Prize committee awards the prize for for a single action? Or, might the committee look holistically. In which case your nominee and his overtly violent actions in the US and internationally leaves much to be desired.
