Oxy is ridiculously woke and plagued by weak leadership. During the Biden years, it was sued by the Office of Civil Rights, US Department of Education, DOJ, and for discrimination and failure to protect Jewish students. Oxy settled its case earlier this year. 14 Jewish students have left since Oct 6 out of fear. The situation is so bad that there’s a Facebook page for parents against anti-semitism at Occidental College. The school suffers from a series of weak Presidents with the result that the uber left faculty run the place. And its $92,650 a year. You can do better. It’s also only “moderately selective”. The school was also crushed by $30M in debt during COVID. Many programs, like football, were scrapped. It’s one of the many SLACs that may flounder and shutter in the next decade.

Damn. That's good to know. What about Whitman? Can a conservative survive there?

Don't know about Whitman. But the aboveis correct re Oxy. And it's selectivity is something like 44-47%

+1. Also don’t know about Whitman but I graduated from Oxy. It once was a great SLAC but went down the DEI/woke trail long before it was fashionable and ruined itself. No grads in my class give money.

Was it hard to get a job on the East Coast coming out of Colorado College? My kid likes it a lot but this is a concern. Looking at the jobs the grads get and where didn't look like a great match. Concerned East Coast wouldn't know about it.

CC grad here - majority of my friends were from the east coast and all moved back after grad. Lots of alums in NYC, Boston - people on the east coast know it well. It’s highly regarded but I definitely run into people who don’t know it (usually people who aren’t terribly interested in colleges or perceived prestige). Those who know, know.

Imagine being brainwashed so young. Sad. Hopefully they can break away from the cult in college.

Fun Oxy fact, former president Barack Obama spent his first 2 years of college at Occidental studying diplomacy/world affairs. They had a partnership with Columbia and he transferred there for his last 2 years.

Another fun Oxy fact, Clueless was filmed there.

It's a lovely campus only 25 minutes from downtown LA next to a suburb called Eagle Rock. It's also only 15-20 minutes from Pasadena and Caltech.

What is actually wrong with you?

A few thoughts about CC: easy travel in/out of Denver or Co Spgs airport; block system is a hardcore academic sprint—semester condensed into 3.5 weeks; lots of kids leave campus for block breaks—skiing, camping, NYC; kids are smart and motivated and work hard; block system allows profs to take classes overseas since all profs teach one class per block and all students take only one class per block.

Most folks have only had experience with one. People dying usually go to multiple colleges. It would be super hard to compare.
