how many credit hours is your UVA freshman taking this fall?

Make sure he isn’t overly focused on just classes. He needs to be engaged with the community. We encouraged our kids to try for 3 activities/clubs 1) sport/singing/dancing/etc 2) research/club related to degree 3) volunteer in the community

These things will be critically important for personal growth and when it comes time for job search

He came in with 36 credits and is planning to declare a 2nd major. We encouraged him to take a light 1st semester, adjust, get his bearings and take the time to plan out his remaining 7 semesters once he got a feel for the department and how things worked.

So far it's been a great decision for him. He's doing well in all of his classes. Tested out of 2 levels of Calc as well as Chem so is only doing Chem lab. He'll hit the ground running next semester and will take more credits.

That’s how our second year engineer student did it last year (although partially due to an issue with placement).
