I am White and half Spanish. I look vaguely Spanish. I carry my passport card in case ICE is interested.
What some don't seem to understand is they are around too. Not just the nice Guard guys and gals. |
Your DL is enough, especially if it is a Real ID DL. I'm not worried in the slightest.

Let’s leave Hitler out of this. Hitler had no political ideology, just a sickness to torture and murder Jews and to take over the world. |
Huh? I mean, the people most supportive of the government imposing tariffs, demanding government ownership in companies (Intel and now defense contractors I guess), etc. are Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. |
That said, keep in mind that the National Guard troops in DC did not ask to be called up for this mission. There are plenty of Democrats and Independents in the military - while they lean more conservative/Republican than the general public about 1/3 are Democrats. This is way different than the ICE officers who as far as I'm concerned willingly showed up to join the Gestapo. |
I agree with this and many have to leave much higher paying jobs in order to take on this idiotic assignment. Job discrimination against reserve folk is very real, especially if an employer now has reason to believe you will be called up for 30+day stretches for absolutely no reason at all. Technically, no employer can fire you for your reserve assignment...but plenty of employers manufacture "other" reasons to fire reservists. |
This is what my family is seeing on Capitol Hill. People are out in the evenings strolling and going to restaurants (notwithstanding what WaPo wants to claim). Students are bar hopping. Uber, DoorDash, and Instacart shoppers are thrilled because they aren't getting robbed at gunpoint. Last week saw a crime drop and a zero-murder week. There's a definite vibe shift. and it's all good. |
Please don't speak for 'people who live on the hill'. As somebody else who lives on the hill, everybody I talk to is very upset about the presence of the national guard, and our inability as a district to decide when/how to police our own streets. I was never afraid to go to restaurants or walk outside at 10pm, and I have lived here for 20+ years and raised kids here. I am less interested in going out now and seeing them in the streets. |
You are responding to the wrong post as I agree with you. |
Says the fake Hill resident mimicking Fox News talking points. Everyone was doing everything you just wrote in larger numbers two months ago…before DC cleared out for the lazy July and August periods. The Uber and DoorDash people aren’t happy at all as they ride mopeds and are targets to get pulled over. Maybe check your fake stories before you post it because restaurants can’t get anyone to pick up delivery orders. BTW…there was a murder last night…in SE far from Capitol Hill, but where 90% of the murders happen…where was the National Guard? |
Nice! It never had a neat vibe like certain NYC/ChiTown/LA burroughs but is nice it's being improved and the trash swept and locked up at least. Was a shame what the capital had become like the last few years, so any improvement is probably really welcomed. |
+1110000 very well written. OP should do this and make sure their friends parent do with their kids too. It's very important for them to know this. Especially if they are minors. They don't need to do anything without their parents/lawyer present |

I’m very concerned for my teen. As we know, Trump sees teens and people of color as criminals and police/guards are incentivized to “find criminals.” We are in a police state. If your child “fits the description” of someone they are looking for, they may not get due process. Make sure your teen understands this if you live in DC.
I live on the Hill and have never seen or witnessed a crime. I walk to the grocery store on H St at night regularly. This is the most unsafe I have ever felt. |
Same to all of this. I have talked to my teen repeatedly who is un Union Station daily commuting to and from school or hanging out with friends. I no longer feel safe having him there. We are all absolutely less safe. |
