Bring back gas attendants

Agree. I would consider this a negative. It is not like pumping gas is difficult.

I'm okay pumping my own gas and have been doing so for a while. The way the country - the u.s.a. - is going, though, I'm expecting I'll have to roll up my sleeves to deep clean my house, wash car, and mow lawn soon, given the anticipated labor shortage for those kinds of jobs. Thankfully I have not gotten into the habit of ordering food delivery since it seems like many delivery drivers are being targeted for harassment/deportment.

Teens don’t want that job.

Go to full service mom-and-pop gas stations and quit supporting those chain places then.

You should move to New Jersey - - I think that is the only state here in America where it is actually ILLEGAL to pump your own ⛽️ gasoline.
Lol.

While I agree that it is icky/gross thinking of all the germs that must live on those dirty gas pump handles, in reality where I live (SoCal) gas is in the $5/gallon range so if I had to shell out more at the pump, I likely would not be able to afford to drive!

Though I am old enough to remember the days of “full-service” gas stations.

In fact >> when my parents were younger, a gas attendant not only pumped gas into the car….he also changed the oil ➕ topped off all the fluids under the hood!

Are you expected to tip them in NJ?

I think most people don't.

It’s not that hard to pump gas. Teach your kid.

For those of you concerned about germs on gas pump handles, what do you do when entering a store, a restaurant or your workplace where you need to touch a door handle?

+1

The inclement weather, the fumes, grime, monotony.

It's bad enough working the CFA drive through.

Whenever possible, I use the handicap "wave in" feature or my purse to bump the handicap button. During covid, I had a small metal keyring door opener that I purchased from Amazon on my keychain. I'm not sure what happened to it, but it was perfect for opening doors without using my hands.

I also have a fold-up grocery cart that I keep in my trunk (also purchased from Amazon), so I don't have to use baskets in the store. I keep a smaller hand cart in the back seat for quick/small store runs.

Knowing how much people do with their hands without washing them messes with my head.

It must be exhausting being you.

Noooooooo! I live in NY and often find myself in NJ, where I avoid filling the tank because I'd just rather do it myself.

Stopping for gas there takes too long. I’m quick and like to stretch my legs.

Same here. The gas lines at the NJTP rest stops are like it's 1973 again.

I know you are saying this to be a jerk, but the above steps are part of my routine and don't take any extra effort. Frankly, my smaller cart makes it easier to maneuver in the grocery store and prevents me from overspending. Once it's full, that's my signal that it's time to check out.

If you understood how those items that multiple people touch are petri dishes for disease, you'd be more cautious, too. Let me guess, you let your kids play in the ball pits at indoor jungle gyms?
