Why have flights to Europe been so cheap this year?

Anonymous
I'm just glad we can take advantage of it . It's nice actually being able to pick good flight times and possibly get lots of open seats compared to the chaos that was the post-covid Europe travel boom.

This.

I was in tears sometimes in my travels, feeling that I had to apologize for what is bringing done under my flag.

Like when I met a Ukrainian…😳

Well, it’s also my flag, and while I feel for Ukrainians, I don’t want to pay for their war. It’s time for them to recognize reality and give up territory to stop the war.

Would you say the same if Putin took Alaska? I mean, it used to be theirs. The whole of Europe would say the same to the US: it's not our war, and we won't help you since you abandoned us.

MAGAs are cowards! They would give up Alaska in a hot second.

Last I checked, progressives weren’t tripping over themselves to serve in the military.

I think the heatwaves caused a good amount of cancellations of US travelers to Spain, Italy, Greece etc. Most of the world wants nothing to do with the US now, let alone the horrifying behavior of ICE so tourism to the US dropped exponentially. Trump screwed the economy so fewer people are taking vacations. Boomers are afraid of their retirement going down so they are scaling back.

All the EU countries are dealing with significant illegal immigration issues and unhappy citizens, so ICE is, put it this way, something only super progressives in clueless bubbles care about. Europeans are not boycotting the US because of ICE deporting illegal migrants, lol. Hahaha! Rolling on floor laughing.

There was a major drop in EU flying to the US following the announcement of the tariffs, which affected airline prices. Exchange rate also dropped, affecting demand on US side.

Having said the above, I'm in Europe right now and no shortage of American tourists and also saw no shortage of European tourists in DC and Chicago earlier this summer.

MAGA says what.

That’s typical for this time of year. US schools start before schools in the UK. I went on a Disney cruise years ago around mid to late August and it was almost all Brits.

I’m at Disney this week and I was thinking I didn’t hear as many foreign tourists as I did in prior years. There have been dozens of news articles about how international tourism arrivals numbers to Florida are way down.

Oh please. I was just in Ukraine and everyone there was so thankful for our support. You are clueless.

My relatives are not coming this Fall from India. They are doing more local travel (in Asia) which is also easier on their jetlag, pocket and sense of security - Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Hong Kong, China, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Japan, Dubai.

Besides the poors and homeless in US and the litter strewn roads make them want to go to nicer and cleaner countries. If they wanted to look at the beggars and dirty streets, they could remain in India without spending money.

It's the economy. I just spent three weeks in the UK, and tourism is down there. August is always busy, but the tour guides and those in business I talked to all said it wasn't nearly as busy as in the past. My anecdotal experience backs it up -- there was no line to see the Crown Jewels at the Tower, etc.

FWIW, I had exactly one conversation about Trump while there, and the gist of it was "like his policies, don't like the way he goes about it." In contrast, every Scot we spend any time with independently started ranting about how pissed they are about the development of wind power etc in Scotland only to see the benefits shipped South. Immigration and green policies have reached a breaking point there. FWIW, Keir Starmer's approval rating is 13%. Thirteen. Percent.

Also, fwiw, Florida had a record number of visitors this summer, and overseas visitors were up. The doom and gloom about tourism comes from Vegas, which has priced itself out of the market and lost its luster with the non-Boomers, who are going to do their gambling on line.

To be honest, I did talk to a Canadian in Scotland who said that they chose not to send their son to camp in the US this summer after the election, but then she said "But that seems silly now."

Agree. We used to visit London every year, but no more. It’s no longer safe, even in the daytime. Same with France, Italy, and Germany. Sad, sad, sad.

LOL at someone from India thinking the US is dirty! Hope they enjoy squeaky clean Cambodia, lol.
