Why have flights to Europe been so cheap this year?

Anonymous
Is it just tariffs??

Ever since March or April, flights to major European hubs have been very cheap (saw as low as $280 to Barcelona or Dublin)

I was surprised by this too. I think the heatwaves caused a good amount of cancellations of US travelers to Spain, Italy, Greece etc. Most of the world wants nothing to do with the US now, let alone the horrifying behavior of ICE so tourism to the US dropped exponentially. Trump screwed the economy so fewer people are taking vacations. Boomers are afraid of their retirement going down so they are scaling back.

All the EU countries are dealing with significant illegal immigration issues and unhappy citizens, so ICE is, put it this way, something only super progressives in clueless bubbles care about. Europeans are not boycotting the US because of ICE deporting illegal migrants, lol. Hahaha! Rolling on floor laughing.

There was a major drop in EU flying to the US following the announcement of the tariffs, which affected airline prices. Exchange rate also dropped, affecting demand on US side.

Having said the above, I'm in Europe right now and no shortage of American tourists and also saw no shortage of European tourists in DC and Chicago earlier this summer.

Not just tariffs- most people not living in the US right now have zero interest in visiting the US right now unless they have to for work. So less demand..::

You are VERY wrong. Europeans are concerned about dealing with ICE, don’t want some jerk looking through their phone and don’t want to risk to be detained. Others are simply disgusted by what is happening in the US. Tourism is down to the US.

Just came back from France and literally had a cab driver ask us why Trump is so racist, so at least one Frenchman doesn't see us in a good light. And he was planning on coming here to the World cup next year and now is deciding between going to Canada or Mexico.

Demand is down. Europeans are avoiding the US in droves.

You are very misinformed. I have a lot of family in Europe who usually come to visit us in the summer. But not this year. After hearing about all the abuse travelers are enduring at the hands of CBP, they have cancelled all plans to visit the US.

Europeans are disgusted by the US now, and not very interested in traveling here. Trump has really ruined our reputation; my European family constantly mentions to me how awful he is and the shock they still feel that we elected him. It’s pretty embarrassing to be an American right now.

Not true. I had British friends who wanted to come visit this fall and they’re cancelling due to fear of ICE and being thrown into a detention center randomly for 2 weeks and also more generally due to not wanting to spend money in the USA when they oppose many of the policies.

We've had European clients express the same. Canadians are also staying away.

Just came back from Europe and overheard multiple conversations about how people avoided the US as a destination when picking their vacation plans.

It’s not just Europeans who use major hubs in Europe to travel to the US and vice versa.
