Does anyone else miss single use soaps in hotel rooms?

The ones I have seen have a type of locked cage over them so they can't be opened or removed unless you have the opener

Where are you staying?! I've never seen cages or locks on these ever.

Hiltons and Hyatts of varying quality. They aren’t super noticeable unless you try to remove the product

The last place we stayed had the multiuser canisters but you couldn’t just press a button to get your soap— you had to “milk” it out of the container which had ridges for a better grip. I just wonder how well the outside of the canisters are cleaned or if they are even cleaned at all??!! Gross.

I also HATE it, OP. I have oily skin and the liquid soaps do nothing for my face but leave a film. I collect as many little soaps as I can from places that still have them and then bring them with me.

The chain was Tru by Hilton-/ they did have a great breakfast and fun lobby!

Same. I've never seen a industrial dispenser like OP described.

Even th Four Seasons I stayed at recently had the pump bottles in the shower. I agree OP it feels gross and I don't care what kind of products or brands they claim to put in there

Agree the plastic waste was bad but providing bar soap doesn't seem like a big environmental issue...

Go to cheap hotels. They often still have them.

Petite woman here: pump bottles is one thing but having to reach through the water flow to get the product is annoying.

It's unfortunate that you're allergic to perfume, but wouldn't hotel lobbies, stores, being around other people and a host of other things be off your list due to your allergy? Unless you travel a ton, I think hotels would be the least of your problems.

Yes, it’s a huge pain. But some hotels are much better than others regarding fragrance. I don’t know if they still do it, for example, but Starwood hotels decade or so ago were super into putting perfume in the lobby. Not all hotels do that. And some hotels have gotten really good about washing towels and sheets and fragrance free detergent and not using air freshener etc.

I obviously travel with my own toiletries that are fragrance free that I know I’m not allergic to so I don’t actually care about using the products. But I like to be able to toss them into a drawer and close the drawer so I don’t have to smell them as much. You can’t do that if they are locked in. The weird thing is this this was a super expensive hotel! You would think you think they wouldn’t have to worry about people stealing entire bottles of shampoo and conditioner

If germs squick you out or you need to read ingredient lists for allergens, bring your own.

What does a bar of soap, the subject of this thread, have to do with single use plastics??

It makes no difference to me, as long as there are items available for me to use to clean myself

lol my parents hoarded tons, it was absurd. Boxes and boxes—My dad traveled a LOT for business and my mom would always take the soaps and shampoos anf put them away in boxes in the linen closet. I’m not sure what she was saving them for.

Same here. And I’ve traveled a lot this year.

Me, too. The faux-snooty poster who says there aren’t bars of soap anymore is laughable.

No more of these dumb sliding barn doors.

Omg yes. Especially since they sometimes don’t close all the way.

Most hotels do this. You might not notice but usually the way they are mounted to the wall involves a locking panel around the opening.
