Traveling this week. Seems like every hotel has now switched to pump shampoo/conditioner/body wash instead of individual bottles you could take away. I typically bring my own anyway but I liked being able to take the provided soaps home for use in my guest bathroom. In the case where I didn’t bring my own for some reason, using the communal bottle kind of gives me the heebeejeebies because who knows what someone may have put in it. I also know hotels would give out extras to unhoused people and they can’t do that anymore.
Am I alone in this? |
| No. Too much waste and too much plastic and some small bottles almost impossible to get the shampoo out. |
| The places I stay still do individual |
| Tons of plastic waste. I do miss them but it’s for the best. |
+1 I do find most hotels still provide bar soap. I like that with the switch more hotels are doing liquid hand soap which I prefer. |
| I hate bars of soap so I am happy with the liquid pump...and happy with less waste. We touch things others have touched all the time. Ias far as your guest bathroom...that is yours to stick |
| I bring my own so I don't care what they have. |
| I hate it and the liquid ones sometimes squirt in weird directions all over the counter and walls. Plus kids can't reach them. |
| My husband was a hoarder like Ross so I’m glad it harder for him now. It was so annoying. |
Same. I've never seen a industrial dispenser like OP described. |

I don't mind the large bottles but I have found that some of them are beyond annoying and almost useless.
Last hotel we stayed in had bottles that didn't have a pump top but were squeeze bottles. But the bottles were hard plastic and difficult to use especially in the shower with wet hands. When they first started showing up in hotels, I also used to think about sick individuals who may put something into the bottles but most of them now seem to be in tamper-resistant containers. |
| I stayed in a hotel that had them locked into the shower and it was frustrating for me because I’m allergic to perfume and they were very scented. Usually, I took them all away in a drawer somewhere if they smell and I couldn’t do that in this case. |
| I don't miss them at all. One particular kind reacted with my body chemistry very unfavorably. I didn't even know that was a thing until it happened twice and I researched it. |
| Just returned yesterday from a trip where I had to use these. I used to be a soap hoarder and don't mind if I don't get any because of the environment but I hate having to pump the things ten million times to get a tiny amount. This happens when the body wash is cheap and doesn't lather or for hair conditioner always because I have long hair. |
| Plus it's easy for staff not to refill these and then you come into a room lacking supplies. |
