Now that summer swim is over...

Twelve year old Yu Zidi went a 2:09 and change in the 2IM and just missed 3rd place by 0.06. That time is 9 sec faster than the U.S. NAG’s for 11-12 girls, and 3 sec faster than the 11-12 boys’, as well as the 13-14 girls’ NAGs. Her 4IM is coming up, but her best time is 15 sec faster than the US NAG 11-12 girls’ record, and again, faster than the 11-12 boys’ and 13-14 girls’ NAG. To put it into perspective, summer McIntosh was going a 2:18 in the 2IM at age 12, 9 sec behind Yu’s time. Yikes.

I am surprised there is no thread on this.

Oh please, it is time to move on to next season. We need to debate whether teams will choose to swim on Friday July 3 or Sunday July 5 2026 in avoidance of Saturday July 4.

A July 4th A meet would be awesome! Much better than the 5th, and a Friday night meet sounds just awful.

Only explanation is PED's.

This. No one is surprised that it’s a Chinese swimmer, who also does not appear to be 12. I would go with she’s older than 12 and on PEDs.

Is there any point to making her younger than her actual age? She wasn't competing in World Jrs, she was at open.

And could be PEDs, could be extreme overtraining.

You can't build a stairway to Heaven.

Its either freakish talent coupled with a disconnect between her chronological age and biological age, or cheating of some sort.

I don't know.

Why don’t you be our guinea pig and let us know how it goes?

I predict a lot of swim teams are going to have trouble convincing pool members that they need to close the pool for the morning. Don't most pools hold a 4th of July "party"? Ours starts at 10am and the line starts building at the front door around 8:30.

Meet starts at 7:30 to finish by 10am?

That’s insane. You have people lining up 1.5 hours before the pool even opens?!
