What backpack is your tween using this fall?

Anonymous
Up to last year it was Jansport. This year it is Northface.

I think Jansport or North Face or any plain sporty looking one is always safe.

Where is this? Not seeing that either the private our oldest attends or large VA public out youngest attends.

Certain Vera prints will pick up fans among preppy teens. It’s cyclical and depends heavily on the specific print picking up fans.

The Deluxe Book Pack? I see this on literally every age group, boys and girls. Really functional and durable

My rising 8th grader also uses an LL Bean. I don't think it's super popular at her school (see a lot of North Face and Adidas), but she likes it.

Nooo please don’t tell me Vera Bradley is making a comeback. They are hideous

This year I looked for a waterproof backpack. Kid bikes to school and rain will damage anything that’s paper.

Is Vera Bradley back in style? Wow, I’m getting old!

She’s in a large VA public. I don’t understand it either and fully expect she’s going to want to go back to her old backpack by mid Sept. A few friends have solid ones, at least they didn’t pick out the floral designs. I was imagining that too.

Mine are both using 1-2 year old Jansports.

Lands End is just cruel to buy for a tween.

North Face or plain old Jansport.

NP. Why?

There's nothing wrong with Lands End, some of my DD's friends have them. That PP is just a rich nasty snob. Normal kids have Lands End, kids whose moms' sole purpose in life is to stay pretty so her lawyer husband won't leave her maybe don't have them.

Plenty of rich lawyers buy their kids Land’s End and LL Bean. In fact, those brands are popular among that set and their backpacks cost more than a Jansport.

We’re talking about middle school girls. Why would parents be choosing their backpacks? My 7th grader chose a Lululemon backpack, black with small black logo so you can’t see it. Not something I would choose but I’m not carrying it. When her friends come over they dump their backpacks and I wouldn’t have any idea where they all got there’s. I think anything goes with backpacks, they all have different taste.

I took my teen to LL Bean and said "pick a backpack large enough to fit your stuff" and she picked out a pretty mint green backpack. We're not made of money, my kids don't get a new bag every year and they're not buying whatever brand is popular at any given timer. That's just now how we operate, and it's never been an issue. I guess I've done a good job not raising materialistic brand obsessed kids.

Did you give your child a credit card, drop her off at the mall and say "buy whatever backpack you want, sweetie!"?

I’m not this poster but I would think most people would ask for their kid’s input. I don’t think I’ve ever chosen my kids backpacks, even in pre-K we walked into PBK and my kids picked the bags they wanted. I remember going into 6th grade Limited Too was popular at my school and my mom let me get a backpack from there when we were shopping for back to school clothes. The kids have to carry the bags around , I want to get something they like. All of these bags are around the same price.

We also picked a LL Bean backpack for our elementary school son. That thing went through a lot of wear but maintained its integrity throughout. It's now a little small for middle school so we'll have him choose another.
