To whom do I report a MD grocery store without a scale?

OP, I get it. I didn't realize that stores had to have a consumer scale, but are you sure that the scale needs to be with the produce and not say, at a self checkout line?

As for PPs who don't care, would you feel the same way if gas stations also weren't regulated for the volume of gasoline sold at the pump?! Maybe you as an individual don't matter much, but inaccurate scales add up to billions of fraudulent charges in the economy. There's a much bigger picture here.

You're an idiot who benefits from the engagement of so-called Karen's. Becasue of people who speak up, demand regulations, and demand that established regs are followed we all benefit. But easier for you to sling tired cliches while you enjoy your safe, regulated groceries.

Ok Karen. As always you are right.

Is there though? I'm sure the scales they use at the checkout are actually regulated/tested. It's not like you get to pour gas into your own measuring device first to compare.

OP, a better solution can be found in the 1990 movie My Blue Heaven starring Steve Martin. Forget about scales, just take your own pricing gun in order to stay within your budget. Works best on meats such as steak.

Why would you equate being able to verify the weight of the melon you select from the bin with falsifying prices?

If you JUST started shopping and are on a tight budget it's one thing. But given this is DCUM, and given you want to report this illegality, I think neither are true.

You know generally how much 2 peppers or 3 tomatoes weigh. Just ph ucking buy what you need.

What's wrong with you two??? I never weigh my produce, but many grocery stores are known to cheat (very slightly), because it benefits them in the long run and most customers are lazy like me and don't notice or care. But my husband cares, and weighs his produce.

There is a reason a scale is legally required. Grocery stores cheat, and if this one is so lax, it absolutely means they're cheating until forced to follow the law.

You never buy just enough of a certain kind of produce that the recipe calls for?

Likely someone who either never cooks from scratch , only eats a very limited diet, or has a lot of food waste.

NP. I’ve used the scale when a recipe calls for a certain number of ounces of produce and I’m bad at visualizing that.

Says the 29 yo basement dweller whose mommy buys their chicken tendies and Orange Fanta so no scale is needed.

As if the store couldn't game TWO scales.

FWIW, Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot both say that supermarkets in Maryland aren't required to provide a produce scale for customer use.

You buy the amount you will eat before it goes bad. I have literally never weighed produce. My kid loves grapes I take enough out of the prefilled bags for her to consume in 2-3 days and go on with my life.
