The store sells most of its produce by the pound, but doesn’t have a scale. I’ve spoken to the produce manager and store manager about this. They acknowledge that a scale is legally required to sell by the pound, but told me I should just eyeball it.
This is a grocery chain, not a Mom and Pop. |

Good lord you karens… |
You say it's a chain so why not start calling the regional office? |
Time to go to a different store. |
The Harris Teeter near me took the scale out of its produce aisle which I found annoying but didn’t realize it was required. Thanks OP |
You don’t. You just “eyeball” yourself way more than a pound. They don’t want a scale, you win. And if enough people are doing that, they’ll get a scale right quick anyway. |
+1 If you JUST started shopping and are on a tight budget it's one thing. But given this is DCUM, and given you want to report this illegality, I think neither are true. You know generally how much 2 peppers or 3 tomatoes weigh. Just ph ucking buy what you need. |
I don’t get it. How do you know how much to pay? Are prices posted? |
Bing your own scale and give yourself 20% extra. |
You only find out at the register. Pretty sure the OP wants the scale right next to the produce, which I guess is a law? |
No, OP doesn’t mean they don’t have a scale at the register. They’re supposed to have a scale by the produce so people can understand the cost of the quantity they’re buying. OP, you can adjust the amounts at the register. If it rings up as 10oz and you only want 8, just tell them and they’ll take some out. |
Is it Harris Teeter? |
Not OP but I assume they weigh the produce at checkout. They just dont let you weigh it in the aisle - meaning you can't know how much it will cost before you check out, and you can't check the cost against the posted price. |
Do you know what exactly 1 pound if cherries look like so you aren’t being cheated at checkout? |
