My sister wants a homebirth

Your “little sister” is having a second baby? Oh no, is she being harmed? She’s underage, after all. She is little. She’s just a girl. She needs you to tell her what to do with her life, to tell her what is best. If only she were a grown woman.

2nd baby should come quicker. (Mine didn’t though)

Let her do whatever she wants. She is the one that will live with the consequences of her actions.

Wow some of these posters are on another planet.

It is beyond selfish to make that choice- knowing your own baby will have a much higher chance to face life threatening injuries so you could have the birth story you wanted.

My sister also had a home birth, multiple weeks late, almost died, baby was rescue flight in a helicopter to the highest level NICU where she lived for a full year. Million dollar + bill. But they got to labor at home so it was worth it right?

Yes, I am. My daughter died at 2 days old, so I very much worry.

Wow very sorry for your loss. I would feel the same anxiety.

Try to give yourself space from the situation and pray the Serenity Prayer. Know that your sister is being selfish and that you have done your best to prevent any tragedies.

Receipts needed, you BSer.

Some births with midwives are OK. Some are not. But it sounds like the sister is planning to “freebirth,” which is insanity.

Even some birthing centers are a mess.

OP, I’m sorry people are being so mean to you. I would worry and be upset too.

Since you can’t change her mind, I think you need to just focus on other things. But I wonder if you could convince her to at least have a certified midwife there who has a hospital affiliation in case something goes wrong.

I would also make sure she has someone to stay with her for the full night after the birth. I had a massive hemorrhage about 3 hours after a successful vaginal delivery. It does happen so if there is someone with her and awake they can call an ambulance if something happens. Even on call the midwife, they have the flying squad.

She tried to decline antibiotics but the birthing center wouldn’t allow her to. 2 days went by and she never went into labor so the birthing center sent her to the hospital where she had to have Pitocin and an episiotomy. My nephew literally came out blue. His temp was low and she refused to let them put him in the warmer. It was terrifying.

She just found out she is pregnant with #2. She wants to have a home birth this time so she can’t be sent to the hospital. I’m terrified. I know it’s none of my business but I can’t stop being fearful for both the baby and her life. I know I can’t change her mind, so how do I cope?

If there’s a midwife there she can call an ambulance if the baby is in distress. My second one was put in that warmer thing because of temp. I can’t even imagine saying no. Why? They aren’t asking to perform a life threatening procedure. They are making a simple decision based on their knowledge on what’s needed.

Some people are too stupid to understand just how little they know. But don’t worry, it will more than likely be fine.
