Should cars be banned in DC?

I figure this might solve the problem of congress being too old if everyone has to take a bike.

It will be interesting to watch all the cyclists in DC when the temperature is 25 degrees with a wind chill temp of 18.
And, you expect the Congress members who live in VA or MD - 20+ miles from DC to bike to work?

There's this concept called "clothing appropriate for the weather". I can be very happy riding a bike in 25 degree weather, because I wear that. And its not even fancy/expensive clothing from overprice patagonia or something. Just a fleece, coat, and some bar mitts.

DC likes to take away bus routes and reduce metro service.

DC could definitely pedestrianize a couple blocks as a start.

Absolutely no. Only positive outcome would be a reduction in car jacking, which could be reduced by simply imprisoning the perps.

There's a better chance that Congressional Republicans make DC rip out the bike lanes and take down the traffic cameras.

20 years ago the bike lanes that currently exist were universally thought to be impossible.

No clue what you’re talking about. DC got its first bike lane in the 1970s.

Yes of course, cars should be banned in DC. Don't threaten me with a good time!

Other major cities' bike share programs can pay for themselves. DC's system is unusual in that it needs to be propped up by taxpayers. The number of cyclists here though has been shrinking for years (unlike in other cities) so it makes sense.

So what? Tax dollars pay for roads and WMATA. What an idiotic suggestion.

Only EVs and self-driving cars should be banned.

Yet another hilarious thread in which a few people have wildly warped perceptions about DC’s population and population density.

DC is a car-centric town in a car-centric metropolitan area. That’s not going to change.

I ride the Green Line a few times a year for daytime Nats games and it’s packed with menacing young people who verbally intimidate other passengers. I can’t imagine taking it every day. I’ll keep my car, thank you.
