In his letter to alums, he said he’d only been planning on staying for one more year anyways and made the decision to save funding/jobs versus one more year of his own job.

My UVA kid’s reaction was, “if he stepped down it was because he put our interests and the university’s interests first.” He is a good person. It’s sad. My UVA student is sad (and afraid they will get rid her her major). Let’s hope the BOV does right by the students and picks someone good not just a political puppet.

No. He is doing this so that UVA staff and programs aren't punished for the games he played with the DEI stuff. It's not fair considering how centrist UVA is, there are a dozen scoops that are fast more "woke" than UVA

But he played games with the DEI stuff and this administration isn't playing games. They are a wrecking ball and you've got to keep your head down the next 4 years. Even wealthy schools like Harvard see the writing on the wall and are cooperating with this administration on the DEI stuff. Expect to see significant shifts in hiring and admissions over the next few years and if the Republicans make this a platform issue, expect those shifts to become permanent.

I don’t have a college aged kid but if I did I would be concerned about sending my kid there now. It will probably attract the MAGA crowd even more now. No thanks.
