Vacation with laptop or not?

I do not find it easier to get tickets, etc on a laptop. It is so easy on the phone I can’t imagine it being simpler.

I enjoy having my laptop on vacation, but there is a lot of personal financial information on it. I don't often bring it for that reason. Hotel safes sometimes don't fit a laptop. We have a cheap iPad purchased for travel (browsing, video on plane, etc) and my phone has my texts and email.

I’m the only person who does my job at a small company so I feel like I have to take my laptop, just in case. There are some single sign on apps that don’t work on my phone and that are critical to people being paid on time. I wish I had a back up though.

If your workplace tells you that you cannot work on vacation, do not bring your work laptop to another country. If it gets stolen, it will be a big mess. We have very specific rules around this in my office (lists of countries because of certain critical infrastructure info in our field etc).

There's very little you can't book or do on a tablet these days. And do you really not have a personal.laptop at home? I don't like to do everything solely on my work computer.

This is op. I was taking about bringing my personal laptop. My previous job was okay with us working on personal laptops anywhere, on a separate partition. I didn't deal with any financial or secure info.

Many years ago we’d take our personal laptop on vacations with us. Not any more. We can do everything we want and need using our phones.

I take an ipad and my phone. I like the ipad for watching movies on the plane or in the hotel room. I do not work on vacation and in a true emergency people know to call/text me and I can sign into email or teams from my phone (but I do not have alerts set).

I don't like scrolling the internet on a phone or shopping or basically doing anything other than texting and instagram on my phone so I always take a personal laptop with me. I want to catch up on the world while at airports or laying on the hotel bed every night. But my laptop is a small macbook air so there is no "lugging around" involved.

It’s a security risk for me. No way.

Maybe your work phone but that’s still a risk. I agree that it would be weird to be disconnected from work emails that whole time.

I *only* pack a laptop if I really think I will need it for work. It's heavy to lug around if not!
