Vacation with laptop or not?

Anonymous
I always bring my laptop on travel but I finally have a 2.5 week vacation to London, Paris, and Barcelona, and my new job prohibits me from working! A real vacation. Would I regret not bringing a computer and just a smart phone? It feels weird to be packing to without it.

Leave it at home! What a luxury!

Husband always leaves his home, I always take mine with. There's no right or wrong, it's what works for you

I would leave it

Leave it— phone is enough (just saw an article arguing for not using your phone on vacation but not going to try that)

Leave it - it could get stolen, and cybersecurity policies often require you not to use foreign networks anyway

Why on earth would you bring it???

My husband brings his so he can watch movies. I leave mine at home and never miss it.

If you are on vacation, leave it. I've done both. The security of your laptop will always be in the back of your mind when you're traveling. Leave that noise alone when you're traveling for fun. You can get the info you need from your phone.

Do not bring it!

If I'm doing a driving vacation I take it, if I'm flying, I leave it at home. I'll take my iPad if I want a slightly bigger screen for looking at stuff or watching movies.

My govt job prohibits me from bring any govt property out of the country (laptop or work phone) so I’m truly prohibited from working most of the time. It’s great. I say leave everything except your phone.

I was thinking of the plane trip entertainment and booking tickets and organizing photos, maybe even like a travel journal, but I could probably do all that on my phone, minus crafty layouts of photo books and text.

It just feels weird to have a packing list without laptop and charger since most of my travel has been work related or required me to work part of the trip.

Yeah I don't get these other replies - Bring it not for work, but for entertainment and planning. I always find it 10x easier planning with a real laptop and multiple browser tabs compared to a phone/tablet.
