As a Jew, I’m terrified

Anonymous
I guess I’d be more scared if I participated a lot in Jewish life. My name is not particularly Jewish. I’m culturally Jewish, was raised conservative with a lot of religion but am very secular as an adult. Who is going to know I’m Jewish if I don’t tell them? I’m Jewish. I have a transgender young adult daughter. Also Jewish. So does Trump make me feel safe? Absolutely not. Do I love the far left wing? I definitely think there’s so antisemitism there, but which group is affecting my life more? My feeling is that if you care about Israel more than about America, you should move to Israel and give up your American citizenship. “Love” these people who move part time to Israel but can come back to the US any time they want.

Something tells me that you will be fine. Imagine being a Muslim in these United States right now. Now that group will face even more Islamophobia and harassment. It’s not all about you OP.

+1. This was my first thought when I read OP. It’s not all about you and you have the ability to make that clear by articulating you don’t support this. If more American Jews did this, it would impact the conversation.

But Muslims don’t have that luxury.

Based on the values demonstrated in your stated views, I hope you don’t experience anything along the lines of what you fear because you don’t seem like part of the problem.

So Jews that support Israel deserve what, to be subjected to attacks here in the US?

We don’t worry because we don’t belong to any synagogues or go to demonstrations. But there hasn’t been anything major in terms of people getting killed. You should worry more about Israelis and Palestinians. They are in real danger.

DP

Sure.

But Iran has been funding terror groups in multiple regions for quite some time. There are consequences for such things.

And now that the US has been dragged into it, it’s reasonable to worry about America and Americans—whether on American soil or abroad.

I wonder how Trump will navigate this…

While he’s big on retribution, he and his advisors probably didn’t see this coming.

The U.S. was not dragged into it. Trump and Miller have been itching for this fight. He wanted to invade Iran the first time around but we had sensible people at the pentagon.

Disagree.

I’m super liberal and can’t think of anything positive to say about Trump, but nonetheless I do not believe he was itching for war. Everything he has said and done—and everything his administration planned for over the last handful of years—pointed to isolationism and avoiding war.

Oh. So what, you think Trump was hypnotized by evil Zionists to bomb America’s friend, Iran?

Read a book.

This is why the US should stop insulating Israel from the consequences of their decisions.

If left unchecked, Iran’s decades long investment in multiple terror groups around the world Hell bent on “death to America! Death to the West!” would have prompted the US and others to take action…likely following a major terror attack or based on troubling intel. It’s easy to blame Israel but it’s really not fair. I mean, where’s the rational thinking when it comes to assessing the threat posed by Iran? Forget WMD; simply evaluate them based on the bankrolling of multiple terror groups.

If Israel falls, why would you believe Iran or any of their terror groups in Gaza or Lebanon or Syria or elsewhere would stop there?

With the porous borders in the US and Europe over the last decade, why would anyone assume any terror threat is limited to Israel?

Those groups around the world will be leading a ton of attacks in the US …it’s going to get ugly here.

All I can tell you is that when I see jews posting on Facebook about antisemitism I immediately think wouldn't it be better to spend more time reigning in your own culture? I know some jews are speaking out against Israel but most of them aren't. They feel no responsibility or even applaud Israel while also fearing for retaliation. As the saying goes FAFO.

lol. Wow. Welp.

Oh yea, this has been well documented. Did something happen when he was growing up that made him into what he is today?

He’s Jewish but the much stronger influence is the “aggrieved white male” thing reacting against what he perceived to be the unfair repression of LA progressive culture. He’s not a good person and this is irrespective of his religion.

Um, what???

Fwiw, I have never believed that the US is controlled by Israel. We do what we want to do based on our best interest.

Muslims could speak up about Hamas and Iran. and it would have exactly the same influence on Islamophobia as speaking up about Gaza does on antisemitism. That is, zero.

We’ve been through this before. groups that are subject to animus have zero responsibility to declare themselves the “Good Ones” in order to be free from prejudice and hate crimes. It doesn’t work, and it’s not fair. This is exactly the same for antisemitism and Islamophobia and we learned this lesson after 9/11.

I’m sorry that you’re terrified. I also think that your feelings are not misplaced. The current administration has a history of publicly identifying scapegoats in the face of their own prejudices and failings. I don’t have any practical suggestions right now — only commiseration. I hope I’m wrong.

DP they should at minimum be drafted in to the front line US units.

It's cute that you think Iran allows access to TikTok.

Except for the part where he authorized massive bombs to be dropped on Iran and threatened more of the same — while also looking back fondly on the assassination he ordered of an Iranian general in his first term — sure.

Spare me the future risk assessment that is 90% propaganda. I’ve heard this story before.

Agree. We have been feed this line for 40 years and it has never happened. The worse part is that ordinary Americans will pay the price when it's trump and his warmongers who should pay.
