UMD is #72 (tied with UW, UMN) The methodology is very different from their ranking of US universities. |
All of those schools are worse than CMU, unless you're into some niche majors. |
It has to be…how is it that a Med school is #40. It has to be based on the volume of research coming out, but obviously they don’t care that Icahn school of Medicine won’t have any research on a non-medical topic. |

Yes, research is part of the methodology.

Rankings are silly. Global rankings are even sillier. Stop the obsession. |
And sports cars always fare poorly in pickup truck rankings. How strange. |
It's really weird there have been many schools flat out cheated and got caught. These people never mention that, but pick on Northeastern every single time. Maybe it's just one or two hardcore trolls having a really hard feeling about the school for some reason?? |
More because we can count on riling the Northeastern booster every time. It’s like they have DCUM alerts sent to them. Even though Northeastern to this day employs all kinds of tricks to juice their rankings. |
+1. Northeastern also shot far further up the rankings because of it, and they more explicitly changed their practices to juice their ranking. |
Actually ranked 91 with an overall score of 71. Some really impressive subject rankings. Pennsylvania State University is ranked #91 in Best Global Universities. Yes, tactics such as having one of the best retention rates, great graduation rate, high quality student body, amazing outcomes, etc. etc. Your kid at one of the cheater schools or something? |
I wonder if the US schools will lose ground with research funding being cut. I went to #41, UBC in Canada. It was not hard to get into back in the 90s. My nephew just got in and isn’t a star either. The google tells me acceptance rate is over 50%. Hopefully my kid will want to study in Canada. |
CMU is the least prestigious there. |
It has a good retention rate. The other three things are middling for a “top” university. |
