My HS junior is going because they are just going to play games and hang out with friends.
MCPS was ridiculous to tack on 2 extra half days. They knew no instruction was going to happen. They talk about bridging the academic gap on one side of the mouths, then do stuff like this. Ridiculous. |
Do you think ANY thing is happening the last few days of school any year? Everyone is completely done mentally. |
Both my kids were doing educational stuff on Friday. Worksheet puzzles and even the movies they were watching were educational documentaries. I assume today was similar. I guess it depends on your alternative. If you're sending your kid to an 800$/week, yes these last two days of school won't compare. If they're just going to sit around and play on screens all day, best to send them to school for some structured teacher time. |
Well, a large tree from the storm fell on Westland MS, so school was cancelled for today (and I assume tomorrow.) |
Mine is still sleeping
|
Mine is going, but only because she's had a lot of absences this quarter. |
That will make for interesting coding for absences. |
Same for my kids. They spent the day reading for pleasure. |
My ES kid is going Monday and Tuesday. |
One ES kid who is not going. We already paid for camps, and she's not missing anything at school these days. We're so firmly in summer mode that my wife had forgotten school was supposed to be happening and was confused when the absence text came. |
Sligo Creek was closed Friday because the a/c broke and my kid was not marked absent. |
I teach in ES and there were a lot of kids there.
My two Hs kids—one went and one didn’t. |
I had a full house in my ES classroom. The kids played inside, had a snack, dance break, then drawing/reading/talking with friends until lunch and dismissal, while I worked on cleaning the classroom. I'm guessing most will be there again tomorrow. They had a fun day. |
+1 My ES kid said 18 out of 25 kids were in their class today. They did a cool math project---something related to building a robot according to certain measurements and specifications about geometric figures. And watched a nature documentary. It was a good learning day. |
+1 My ES kid said 22 of 24 attended. I think the "no one will come" was a little exaggerated, although obviously anyone skipping today and tomorrow is going to be fine. |
