Last three half days, who is going?

Yup, with Monday and Tuesday being MCPS days, and Thursday being a day a lot of camps aren't hosting due to Juneteenth, I didn't enroll my kids in camp. Happy to send them to school, even if they will be watching movies for part of the time. At least they'll be with their friends and transitioning gently out of their current grade.

My kid is not going next week. We are going to hang out and skip camp.

Next week is weird. Some camps don’t start till Wednesday and then there is Juneteenth.

Not a full week of camp.

Going next week but canceled camp. Going to the beach for the long holiday weekend!

Today is my last day for my kids. Kids will go to camp next week, and they open on Juneteenth. We already tell teachers that we are not coming next week. Do I still need to file for absence on school website for next Mon/Tue? The school requires us to file for absence when kid not coming in school during school year.

I would assume so. My kid's teacher said they're required to take attendance.

I'm an elementary teacher and I have no idea how to expect. My 2nd and 5th grader are going, and I've promised my 5th grader she can hang out in my classroom if nobody else in her class comes. I gave my 8th grader options and right now she's going on Monday and will see about Tuesday. I know there won't be anything instructional but it seems like a good chance to just hang out with friends. I'm showing a movie while I clean up the classroom, since teachers lost that extra day without students.

PP again to clarify that my elem kids attend the school where I teach. Which is how my middle kid can be in my classroom if there aren't any other students in hers.

I have a job so yes my son is going.

5th and 2nd graders, last day was Friday. We already paid for camps. One offered a refund but the other didn’t, and both are open Juneteenth, so to camp they go! The school wrapped up 5th graders promotion stuff by Friday - perfectly aware few will be there the last two days.

This. I’m a teacher so my kid goes until I am done.

Making my kids go but my high schooler is not happy about it. Teachers cannot assign work Mon or Tue so I get it. On Friday he skipped one class and went to a class that more of his friends are in, I expect more of the same this week. Since MCPS made this dumb decision, they can figure out what they want to do him.

Why is everyone complaining about MCPS? We had snow days and now we're making them up. Some people will already had conflicting plans with travel etc so they made them non-academic half days. Go or don't but the amount of whining everywhere is crazy.

Why are you sending a HS kid? I understand sending little kids but I don’t know what the point of sending a HSer is. I’m letting mine sleep in and then he is supposed to clean his room and start his SAT prep while I’m at a conference.
