This article is from April, 2024. Well before Trump. |
The ADL has zero credibiliity. It is a pro-Israel lobby devoted to repression of free speech and thought in America. I don't understand how any Jewish person thinks this is good for Jews. |
Yep. Most people who are life long Virginians know UVA doesn't have a reputation for tolerance. |
PP can you say more about this? Several DMV schools have done the ADL's No Place for Hate program in recent years. Should schools be thinking twice about signing up for this? |
ADL is more about promoting the actions of the State of Israel by any available means. Saying anything contrary to this mission is "defamation". |
Agree. ADL is no longer a trustworthy organization. |
Remind me again. Why did the Proud Boys and the like go there? Because they were taking down Confederate statues. Charlottesville didn't march on itself. Hate groups marched on them. |
NP. It's complicated. The ADL and SPLC both remain very good resources on white supremacist groups/symbols, and I've never heard anything about No Place for Hate that would make me concerned. On the other hand, ADL takes such an expansionist view of antisemitism as to almost strip the word of meaning, and also constantly obfuscates the legitimate difference between antisemitism and anti-government-of-Israel's-actions. Moreover, their leadership has been cheering the detention of legal US residents who have been involved in pro-Palestinian advocacy. Not riots, not protests, just noting that Palestinians are human beings who are suffering. So, they are aligning themselves with folks like Stephen Miller for short-term "gain" but also throwing away some of the most important tenets of Judaism to do it. Moreover, I truly worry that collaborating with fascists is going to backfire on the ADL and on the Jewish American community more generally. |
I find it fascinating that non-Jews (and likely people who have zero interaction with Jews) are more concerned about this than actual Jews.
I am Jewish. Most Jews I know think Trump should just stfu. By allegedly trying to help Jews he is just making things worse. I don’t need his help. Trump and Fox completely control the narrative and all of their ignorant followers just repeat it and have lost all ability to critically think for themselves. They are worshipping a false God. I learned in Hebrew school that this is violating a commandment. I wish all of their phony pious evangelists would snap out of it and realize the same thing. |
I'm the PP you responded to. Thanks for this explanation. |
+1. So over Isreal deciding what American kids can and cannot PEACEFULLY protest on campus, or learn in a classroom,or discuss in a class. Yelling “Antisemitism” any time you disagree with someone else s point of view is the new “boy that cried wolf”. |
And of course the ADL gave it a failing grade. Did you expect a different outcome? Look, the criteria used for evaluation wasn’t valid. It isn’t like the rating is credible. |
Don't forget that the CEO of the ADL officially, on behalf of ADL supports Elon Musk's Nazi agitation. |
They went there because one of the Proud Boys leaders at the time graduated from UVA. Jason Kessler is a white nationalist and neo-Nazi who is known for organizing the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017. He has a connection to the University of Virginia (UVA) as he is a university graduate. Here's a summary of Jason Kessler's connection with UVA: Graduation: Jason Kessler graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 2009. Controversial Conduct and Ban: Following the Unite the Right rally and its related events, Kessler has been banned from UVA grounds due to multiple reports of him threatening and harassing students. This ban was issued in 2018 and renewed in 2022 due to ongoing concerns about his conduct and its impact on the university community. Prior Disturbances: Before the ban, Kessler had disrupted the UVA Law Library by making racist and sexist remarks, which prompted the university to issue a no-trespass warning. Legal Cases: Kessler has been involved in legal cases stemming from the Unite the Right rally, including a lawsuit filed by nine Charlottesville residents, and has been ordered to pay damages for violence during the rally. |
My kid's school (not UVA) was downgraded based on hearsay. This is not exactly reputable? |
