UVA is supposed to be inclusive and tolerant, but that does not apply to Jewish students, apparently:
https://www.29news.com/2024/04/11/uva-gets-an-f-campus-antisemitism-report-card/ |
This is alarming:
“UVA officials, according to the report, “acknowledge there have been dozens of recent reports of antisemitic activity. One Jewish student said he has received death threats since Oct. 7, was physically assaulted while counterprotesting at an anti-Israel walkout and has been called antisemitic slurs. This prompted the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights to open a Title VI investigation against UVA in December 2023.” |
And this response from UVA is spot on:
“Roughly 45% of schools received a D or F grade. It appears initially that the ADL negatively graded many institutions for acts of constitutionally-protected speech, protest, or student-led referenda. The University of Virginia was founded on the principles of free expression and student self-governance, and we will continue to honor those values, even as we continue to fully condemn antisemitism and all forms of bigotry and to support members of our community in this challenging time. We can certainly always improve, but we strongly disagree with the subjective conclusions presented in this scorecard.” |
Of course they disagree. Did you expect a different response?? |
2025 College Free Speech Rankings: University of Virginia:
“WHAT TOPICS ARE DIFFICULT FOR UVA STUDENTS TO HAVE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT? University of Virginia ranks 54 on the “Openness” component. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is identified most frequently as a topic that is difficult for students to have an open and honest conversation on UVA’s campus (66%). In 2021, 30% of UVA students reported having difficulty having an open and honest conversation about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on their campus. This percentage remained the same in 2022 before increasing in 2023 to 36%. UVA students report less difficulty discussing other topics compared to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with the lowest percentage (7%) of UVA students reporting the topic of China being difficult.” |
Yup. I’m Jewish and have not viewed the ADL as a credible organization for a long time. |

My two daughters recently graduated from UVA with NO reported issues with antisemitism during their time on grounds.
Signed, a Jewish mother |
I’m not so sure. Here is a report from a different group, but it also paints a troubling picture of campus life at UVA for our children:

+1 Great response. |
They disagree because they’re right. |
Yea, they’re a “different” group alright. And not exactly an unbiased one. |
At this point in time, I don’t care to hear another word from the ADL. They have made a mockery of real, meaningful terms to the point that nothing they say is credible. |
My kid’s Ivy does not have any of that. They had minimal protests that were shut down immediately. He has a Jewish roommate who is very happy.
The South is the most anti-Semitic (and racist for other races, non-Christian religions) yet the admin has you believe it’s a NE elite issue. |
UVA has never been a particularly liberal or progressive school, despite all the rhetoric on the right. |
