When I was a young teenager, Dr Dre’s The Chronic came out and it was huge. Then Snoop, Tupac and Biggie blew up. It was everywhere. My parents hated all it.
I remember blasting Sir Mix A Lot and Salt N Peppa in middle school. Yikes. Some of that might not seem too bad in comparison to today’s music but at the time it was a big deal. I guess my point is that many parents seem to feel this way at one point or another. Say something if you want, or ask her to turn it off in your presence, but controlling the music she listens to generally doesn’t go well. |
Maybe ask her what she likes about it? She might think the lyrics are so over the top it’s funny, or something like that. |
| This is vile stuff. I would be upset too, OP. |
| Just blare it with the windows rolled down next time you pick her up from school or sports practice. |
Yeah, no. This is way worse than 2LiveCrew. |
That's the answer. Start blaring it and talking about how you love sucking DH's Johnson. There is no better remedy than embracing it whole heartedly. |

I was driving with my mom and teen DS in the car and NIN’s Closer came on the radio. We were in active conversation so I didn’t react to change the station; I didn’t want to draw attention to it.
Except then we stopped at a light and the chatter stopped so it was silent just in time for the chorus. Whoops. |
I think it's the other way around. Parents don't want to listen to the same music as their teens. My 15 year old is currently obsessed with Piano Man (yeah, the Billy Joel one), and wants to learn to play the piano just to play the opening riff (she plays a totally different instrument). |

Our 14 year old DS listens to terrible music- we had a parent filter selected for his YouTube music account- for him to listen to the clean versions of thr rap music that he loves...but something happened to the filter and now he hears the unedited versions - typical drugs, sex, misogyny, racial slurs.
I feel like you pick your poison...he has no internet access on his phone, limited screen time, and is more sheltered in other ways...so I'm gonna just let him listen to songs about hoes going to trap houses and not die on that hill... |
