Since the vast majority of pregnancies requiring maternity and obstetric care involve male participation, that seems at least as fair as having women pay for insurance that subsidizes gunshot wounds and other results of impulsive behavior. Would you feel better, PP, if, instead, single men were neutered — and, in return, had lower insurance rates? |

Good idea. If you have a vasectomy + confirm you are shooting blanks you no longer have to pay for premiums to cover maternity care. Of course, post-menopausal women also should get the same decrease right? |

| I was born in 1980 and my dad was laid off a couple times in my childhood. 18 months of cobra was still an option then. You had to pay for it though. Also, I was able to stay on my parents insurance until I think 26? I didn’t take insurance at my first post college job because my parents were still paying for “family” insurance for my younger siblings so it cost them nothing extra to keep me. And I didn’t have to pay the premium at work. |

Statistics are not gospel. I really wish people understood this. Instead many treat it as the end all be all. It is a tool that only as good as the user behind it. And can hide or illuminate patterns depending on the parameters that is selected. You can lie with them. Easily since so many have blind faith in statistics. Btw you also have wealthy people from foreign lands that hide their assets so they can use the US Medicaid and welfare system. |
