Second thoughts about Harvard?

From the perspective of an outside, unconnected person, this seems like a time when Harvard can actually show the leadership that its brand automatically connotes. I'm more used to hearing things about Harvard that are negatives. Like Larry Summers mouthing off about women.

I like to see institutions prove their value and not coast on wealth and history.

Every major institution in American life can be criticized for racism, sexism, political missteps, etc. But retrospectively, one can tell that there are moments in history where institutions truly lead.

I believe t5his is such a moment for Harvard.

I wouldn't care if it looks messy on the ground. Even if I were a student and had to live through the messiness.

Harvard has a Divinity school, which you would know if you had ever set foot on its large, urban campus.

DP. I watched a video of the Harvard Divinity School graduation this year. The Harvard Divinity School has very little to do with religion.

This.

Gained huge respect for them standing up to this administration.

They will be judged to be on the correct side of history when this all falls out.

Larry Summers was at MIT before Harvard and a bunch of us at MIT called very loudly for his removal for his women-are-lesser comments and he was removed!

So proud that your alma mater is so dedicated to discriminatory practices that they'd rather destroy scientific research that could save millions of lives rather than simply not discriminate based on race?

This is just the beginning. Last weeks Supreme Court decision eliminating the double standard for discrimination cases is going to have major ramifications for many universities. Now these cases can survive summary judgment, discovery is going to be ugly.

How would you know? And religion doesn’t belong in education. The Northeast is not the Deep South.

Tell that to a Professor of Theology.

There is no discrimination based on race that is preventing the scientific research from happening. All this was accomplishing is moving scientific research, that was an economic engine for the US, to other countries. Good job maga.

So this thread is dedicated to the 50 families that might frequent DCUM and have a first year kid at Harvard?

This administration could come after any University obviously. Harva deserves a lot of respect for fighting back hard.

I know one kid who got in and has a trumper parent. If DC is the same, they might want to rethink going to Harvard. If DC is okay with Harvard fighting back against this nonsense then go.

Most posters appear to have assumed that hesitancy toward Harvard pertains to topical issues. This may be correct. However, Harvard's more general attributes could be an issue as well. For certainty on this, the OP would need to provide clarification.

50 is probably overly generous.

It is not a safe or tolerant environment for Jewish students.
