initiation Fee: $70,000
Monthly Dues: $730

That’s actually pretty cheap as far as DC area clubs go.

There's a reason why it is easy to find an inexpensive private urban/suburban pool or tennis club, and hard to find an inexpensive private urban/suburban golf course club.

Hains Point or Rock Creek or Old Soldiers Home

Ke wood is extremely elitist, even if others are more elitist.

OP wants to be a country club elitist that locks out the hoi polloi, but wants it cheap.

I think they’ve all gone up. We’re in NOVA and the initiation fee at ours is up to $100k. I will say my only regret is not joining sooner. We have 3 kids who are big tennis players, and the amount of time and money we spent driving them around the beltway to various coaches, cancelled lesson bc of weather in the winter, etc. was enormous. Now they play year round at our club, there are great indoor facilities and the coaches and clinics are much better priced than we were playing elsewhere. We also end up eating there after tennis a ton, and the food is good and cheaper than a restaurant. Sure there are some weird families where their entire being and social life seems to revolve around “the club”, but we weren’t friends with them before joining and aren’t socializing with them now, so who cares what they do.

Hains Point is alright. Rock Creek is a dump. I like Old Soldiers Home because of how few other players you encounter out there even if the conditions are pretty bad. It's a great place to work on your game without having to worry about a crowded course and slow pace of play. Not to mention it has the only driving range anywhere near that part of the city.

Kenwood seems like a nice spot but privately owned. So there is a profit motive. All the big clubs are non profit/ member owned. Been at both types and well run member club is the way to go. I would pay the extra money and join Congressional or Columbia if you don’t want to jump through the Chevy hoops. . Norbeck and Manor are way to far from nwdc.

Of course, there's also restrictions on membership:

You have to be IMF, IDB or World Bank employee. But every so often they open it up to others.

Also origin of Bretton Woods is that IMF started their own club when international employees and people of color were not being allowed to join other country clubs in the area

Wow

Not that crazy to believe as BW accords ( which set up the WB and IMF) was after WWII so that was the 40s. Dc had Jim Crow laws until 1964 and passage of the civil rights act so if you think about it…all these nations were gathering here to work and live but we had segregation.

I mean it’s quite literally the purpose of a country club. Everyone wants nice things but nice things only stay nice when poor people can’t afford it.

My swim and tennis club has this minus 3 months out of the year. They can do an indoor clinic for the 3 months. They aren't elite but we pay a lot less and there are just as many kids that do tennis.

Nope. Look up the zoning. And no way owners in the surrounding neighborhoods would ever let the zoning change. It would destroy the property values.
