If you live in DC, its tough to find both affordability and proximity. Kenwood is under $100,000 initiation. Otherwise, I think Hidden Creek in Reston is pretty affordable. |
Waste of money |
I can’t because I was a member through college and didn’t choose to continue, but it’s a lot closer in and cheaper than Bethesda and had a lot of NWDC families. The OP pretty much described my family - loved the pool and tennis, my dad was an accountant who needed golf to host clients although he didn’t love it, and he was too frugal to spend the money on Chevy Chase Club - we were invited and declined. Check it out! |
I have some World Bank/IMF friends that belong to Bretton Woods. It's a lot more affordable and down-to-earth.
Of course, there's also restrictions on membership: https://www.bwrc.org/club/scripts/library/view_document.asp?DN=MEMCAT |
You have to be IMF, IDB or World Bank employee. But every so often they open it up to others. |
Also origin of Bretton Woods is that IMF started their own club when international employees and people of color were not being allowed to join other country clubs in the area |
Country clubs are really expensive to maintain. That’s why they’re expensive. It’s not a snob fee.

You are not a “normie” if you belong to a CC.
An actual normie plays at public courses and belongs to a neighborhood pool. |
I was thinking the same thing. |
The Y? |
The Donbrook, McCallister Club, The Jeffersonian, 1789 Bolthole. |
