OP here. Quick update.
Urologist did exam felt mass which was hard and on one side. Ordered one more psa. If psa is high again they will go right to biopsy. If psa is normal they will do scan only at this point. Doc being neutral and not making assumptions without results. But he did say biopsy was likely and asked if he wanted a sedated procedure if we go down that route. Yes to Sedation. Waiting on the other set of psa, before next step. |
So sorry. Men, don’t be like this guy. |
OP here. Agree to above but also on an easy annual psa. DH skipped psa for 2 or 3 yrs. Continued to go twice a year to cardiologist. But skipping out on pcp cost us valuable time. |
OP, how was your DH's second psa reading? Is PSA measured and included by routine blood work for men? |
OP here. 2nd psa is still high. Same reading as before. Urologist confirmed pcp findings and also felt hard small mass on one side. They are skipping mri and going straight to biopsy. With Sedation. Will be happening in next week or so. |
OP, I'm sorry you're dealing with this but a biopsy is the only way to know for sure. |
OP sorry the path is not where you hoped but the process is in motion to get the best results possible.
Don't neglect your own health this year either. |
FWIW he should get the colonoscopy before any surgery. He won't be in the mood later on.
I got one a bit early just to get it done before my breast surgery. |
Friend, same age, was diagnosed and had surgery earlier this year. Hang in there OP. |
Thanks all for your nice words. Sometimes people on dcum are a little harsh. But this forum seems a little softer. Colonoscopy scheduled for early next week before biopsy. Will keep you posted on this thread. I agree It is slow motion. But just take week by week. |
It does seem surreal as you go through this "journey" but be present enough to keep those appointments for your DH and yourself. You sound like you're on the right path, but don't skip your own mammogram, dentist, colonoscopy, dermatologist, etc. Wishing you good health. |
Consider an MRI-guided biopsy. Otherwise, your urologist is hunting (i.e., taking samples) without a map. With the guided biopsy, your doctor has a much better idea of where to look. |
Best wishes for you and your DH, OP! |
OP here. Prostate biopsy is tomorrow morning. On cipro now. 6 cores on either side. 12 total. Doc is particularly concerned about one side where there is a hard mass. They are using some type of guided imagery. Sedation too so hopefully it won't be too pleasant. Recovery sounds a little rough. Will update as results come through. |
thanks for the update. wishing you the best. |
