It is the soonest appt I could get, via the referral. We do plan on exploring second opinions and not rushing into treatments. But right now there is no diagnosis. Research shouldn't start before a diagnosis. Maybe he has a prostate infection, idk.

If there isn't imaging before the "urology" appointment then you are wasting time.
I am very sorry to be blunt but it's very likely he has metastatic prostate cancer.

OP here. Curious why you think that. Bc of thr symptoms or bc they are sending him straight to urologist?

Urologists likely do biopsies since your DH has multiple lumps they would like to sample imaging is a way to plan before the needle goes in.
The pain area is worrying for bone involvement.
If there is cancer they may do a PET scan to see if there is any metastasis.
Fingers crossed it's a combo of benign things.

Please do not diagnose, that is irresponsible. Recommend investigative methods. WTF is wrong with you?

I just went through this with my dad.

If I were you, I'd be calling for 2nd opinions and pushing for imaging to be ordered before the urologist.

OP here. I'll post back on findings but I have a feeling that it will take a while to get results. His pcp is also pushing for colonoscopy which we have just scheduled mid June. He only ever did colonguard. Pcp is concerned about anemia
Anonymous
Will be thinking of you both. BTW there are threads on colonoscopy but basically I follow a low residue diet 3 or 4 days before the prep starts. Like wonder bread now whole wheat, rice krispies not all bran, etc. Less to get rid of in prep. Also no red or purple anything.

Ignore this troll. I'm surprised they didn't blame you for being a bad wife and lousy human being too. That's par for the course.

Where would they send him besides a urologist? He clearly has something wrong with prostate.

My husband got it at 45. Had surgery and he is fine with a psa of zero 10 years later.

I also want to say abt the “most die with it not from it” thing-that’s true but that’s because the average age of diagnosis is abt 20 years older than OP’s husband-he will very likely be fine with treatment but it’s normal to be worried abt the diagnosis in at 50!

You can't say how a patient will be without more information. What is his Gleason's score? Has it already spread?

Urologist is good, but imaging prior to the appointment will be ideal. If it shows anything concerning, OP’s DH can go straight to an oncologist to get treatment going. It sounds like the PCP wants the urologist to order the scans, though. I believe there are urologists who specialize in oncology.

^and maybe it’s true that the urologist will know more about the appropriate scans for the situation.

Sometimes “no news is good news” but in this case, I’d want a scan tomorrow and wonder why the doc didn’t order one. Scans and preferred oncologists and urologists can rake some time to get an appointment. So you can’t always take the straight line “one at a time” approach. But when my doc found something she didn’t like, I felt absolutely moved into the fast lane - one specialist’s office called me within hours to schedule an appointment. That specialist encouraged me to schedule with a specialist oncologist, even before pathology came back (oncologist appts were scheduling 3 weeks out and In retrospect, the doc “knew” pathology would confirm cancer)
In OP’s case, it seems no one is particularly concerned - - I’d personally want to speed things up to get to a diagnosis.

Unless it’s ignored, like someone I knew who should have known better. Yes, he died of it, and he was a physician. Men will die of it if it's ignored.
