They do not have to release criminals when ICE asks them to keep holding them until they can pick them up, about two days. They choose to let them go, and some Democrats take active measures to help them avoid ICE.

Who pays for those two days? That’s called an Unfunded Mandate and impinges on state sovereignty. Why do you love Big Government?

I thought Merrick Garland took it to the Supreme Court that states had no right to defend their borders WRT immigration and it was a federal issue. Now you want to do a 180 and plea state sovereignty and I guess the tenth amendment is out the window? Make up your mind.

Yes, it is a federal issue if you want local police departments to detain an illegal immigrant for multiple days at the cost of the local taxpayer while ICE gets its house in order to pick him up. That’s the Unfunded Mandate on localities and states.

The entire time ICE has been going on Fox News and hyping up rightwingers, they could’ve been monitoring databases and filing paperwork with judges that puts a felony hold on repeat offenders. The absurdity of the situation is that (1) ICE has failed for decades to do this very basic law enforcement work and (2) they want a gold star for the work they should already be doing!

To be clear, all localities should be honoring felony warrants.

Agree. They had the means to do this before - getting a warrant.

FWIW, I'm glad that these criminals are being deported. But, why didn't ICE do this before?
It was a smaller number. This is people who have illegally immigrated more than once.

I doubt the numbers were much smaller a year ago.

ICE could fund this, but Kristi wants a new 50 million dollar plane.

Many cities have opted to be sanctuary cities for a reason.
A big one is that they can foster stronger communities by promoting trust between immigrants and local law enforcement, leading to safer neighborhoods and increased cooperation in addressing crime. Also, they allow immigrants access essential services like healthcare and education without fear of deportation. I know that sounds like something you all think we should cut off but i would rather the undocumented in this country be getting an education and healthcare while here, than not.

As it turns out, sanctuary cities are only really sanctuaries for criminals. These illegal alien criminals prey on other illegal aliens. Rape them. Murder them. Seems as if the idea of them "leading to safer neighborhoods" is a huge fallacy.

The reason is for votes, not safety.

Lots of "undocumented" immigrants have work authorization. That's good, it means that they contribute taxes and social security that they will never receive and it means they are known, rather than unknown and untraceable.

Couldn't they just come back the next day? Or just wait until the people leave work to go home?

Well then they aren't undocumented if they have work authorization. There is no more DACA so who else is known to be here illegally but has work authorization?
