Vitamin B deficiency, mental symptoms and injections

Oh that's good to know, thank you. Have you tried hydroxocobalamin? I'm doing that now, it's not going great, and wasn't sure if adenosylcobalamin would be any different.

Go carnivore! It will heal your IBS and increase your B-12 and iron levels. Eliminate all processed foods and grains and go clean keto if you don’t want to try carnivore. You will feel better.

Thanks. I've really tried to cut back on grains as much as I can. I'm gluten free so basically eat no bread or pasta already. But you're right, I feel so much better when I'm grain free.

It means that you can absorb b12 in the intestine. If you lack intrinsic factor your need injections.

How do they diagnose the intrinsic factor?

I suspect I am deficient, but my blood work is always supposedly normal. I supplement, so I've wondered if I need to stop prior to blood work or if the test they are doing is not the best one.

I'm not the poster you were asking, but I lack intrinsic factor. It was diagnosed via biopsy of samples taken during an EGD. Stopping a supplement prior to blood work won't tell you anything about it because if you do lack intrinsic factor, the supplement is having no effect at all because you can't metabolize it. I can take all of the supplements and eat all of the iron rich foods in the world and the only thing that affects my numbers is a monthly injection that bypasses my GI system.

You do need to stop B12 supplements before testing or you will get a falsely high number. PP above is lacking intrinsic factor, but it is far from the only thing that can cause low B12.
