What is intrinsic factor and why did it make you stop the Vitamin B?
It means that you can absorb b12 in the intestine. If you lack intrinsic factor your need injections.
How do they diagnose the intrinsic factor? I suspect I am deficient, but my blood work is always supposedly normal. I supplement, so I've wondered if I need to stop prior to blood work or if the test they are doing is not the best one.
I'm not the poster you were asking, but I lack intrinsic factor. It was diagnosed via biopsy of samples taken during an EGD. Stopping a supplement prior to blood work won't tell you anything about it because if you do lack intrinsic factor, the supplement is having no effect at all because you can't metabolize it. I can take all of the supplements and eat all of the iron rich foods in the world and the only thing that affects my numbers is a monthly injection that bypasses my GI system.
