DC Police Week

Why does the city allow this? I am not anti-cop but allowing police officers who have no jurisdictions here to turn on their sirens as if they're responding to emergencies here in DC (they're really just running red lights) and blocking off traffic for bike riding (as someone posted on Popville) seems to me to be an abuse of power.

I don't want to make this a blue lives matter vs. ACAB debate. Again, I am not anti-cop. I just don't know why the city allows this bad behavior.

Get use to it. This is the future. Cops and federal law enforcement are unaccountable to the people. They only answer to rich MAGA.

They must all be defunded.

They’re actually getting raises and new equipment. The funding is increasing.

What possibly could have driven such an insane decision?

You think the police care about rain?

Well, DC police never get out of their cruisers, so prob not.

Like Rolling Thunder?

I don’t see a problem with this.

I mean...no, because Rolling Thunder is a charity event to honor veterans. DC police week motorcycle escorts are just out of town cops playing with sirens in order to run red lights and make their dinner reservation faster on vacation.

I don’t love police week and I think it’s a debacle how drunk they got, but it is to honor the police who died in the line of duty throughout the last year.

What about all the fishermen who died keeping the Whole Foods seafood case stocked? Do they get to romp all over my city for a week? Loggers? Roofers?

Police doesn't even make the top 10 most dangerous jobs. And they're overgrown bullies, mostly pretty racist. If they want respect "for the badge" they need to earn it like everyone else.

OMG. Thank you OP. I work on 17th near the White House, and Monday all day they rode around in a circle with their sirens on. Literally, every 10 minutes for 6 hours, I had a cavalry of motorcycles with sirens blaring outside my window. It was truly horrible. Certainly did not make me think positively about the police.

Prefer unregistered ATVs and dirt bikes?

Do I prefer engine noise for a couple of minutes once a week or so, over six hours of sirens during my workday? Yes. Yes I do.

Anyway, it's not like the cops do any enforcement or anything. No need to choose. We have both.

You do realize you can hate both, right?

And many of the police would be supportive, even as you call them “thugs”

- wife of an officer who would celebrate those parades.

It’s me again. I posted just that one time.

This be hard for you to believe, but I’m not the only one who has posted something positive toward police. Not all of us live our lives hating large groups of people.

I'm not posting anything negative toward police, fwiw. I am not anti-cop, because I don't think all cops drag race up and down Conn. Ave. sirens blazing. I am pro-cop, anti-cops acting like a-holes.
