They likely won’t, because the Democrats have to bear the burden of being the adults cleaning up after the children time and time again. However, I do hope that they make sure that this never happens again.

Yep.

And why is the President firing the "Librarian of Congress." Shouldn't Congress do that?

He is racist and hates women. We know this.

Smart women of any color make him feel threatened.

Technically there is no defined process for removal of this position. That means the president technically has the authority to do it. This would be different for GAO and CRS.

+1 Or an accusation of having committed assault. The reality is that there are few Black women who will be able to keep a senior position in this administration, despite being more principled and competent than the Trump officials around them.

The irony is that Trump’s racist job practices are demonstrating exactly why DEI efforts are still required. Discrimination against minority populations is a fact of life in all human societies - it doesn’t simply vanish at the fifty year mark.

Of course. It crushes me that DEI has become like a swear word in some circles. DEI isn't there to make sure that incompetent women and people of color get jobs. It's to make sure they don't lose opportunities to less competent white men.

Does it really mean that?

Not if the house is already clean.

DP. Apparently, yes. Still, not a good look--more reflexive lashing out at anyone in authority who is a minority and/or female. In this case, he got two for the price of one.

The President of the United States has the authority to remove the Librarian of Congress. This position is appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate for a 10-year term, as stipulated by 2 U.S. Code § 136–1. However, the statute does not specify any procedures or restrictions regarding the removal of the Librarian, implying that the President holds the discretion to dismiss the incumbent.

Reporter: The president fired the Librarian of Congress. Why?

Leavitt: There were quite concerning things she had done at the Library of Congress in the pursuit of DEI and putting inappropriate books in the library for children.

Uh, the Library of Congress is the national repository for ALL books. WTF is Baghdad Barbi even talking about?

Not if the house is already clean.

Which it was not. But it will be soon.

What, specifically, was the issue with the Library of Congress that this person had to be fired?

It's really a bad idea to put attention-guzzling sociopaths in charge of governments.

What exactly is racist and misogynistic about this? She's also very old and should retire to let millennials and younger lead

Also White Republicans should lead the LOC, right? /S

LOL at how suddenly the MAGA are experts on everything from immigration law to how the Library of Congress is run and what its personnel needs are.

There wasn’t one. I’m reasonably sure of this because I’m also reasonably sure that if there actually was an issue, Trump would be braying about it loudly and publicly.

I wonder if Trump’s pick for her replacement will even be literate.

I also wonder if there will be a book festival this year.

Carla Hayden was the Librarian of Congress. She was abruptly fired today by a president who likely lacks the capacity to even understand the intricacies of her job. Hayden was well-respected in her prior role heading the Enoch Pratt library system in Baltimore. She brought her competence and enthusiasm with her to the LoC.

Trump — and those who write the Executive Orders for him to sign, seem determined to create a new Dark Ages for the rest of us while they revel in plundering the resources of our nation.
