False 8 v Capstone

Capstone hands down. My kid has done both and False 8 was basically a cardio session.

Throwing FTA into the conversation. If you can get in, it's great training at an affordable price. He frequently works with FC and used to regularly partner with False8. He has different groups for different levels, so kids are placed appropriately. But his top level sessions are filled with top kids from the area.

Can you elaborate on FTA? What does that stand for? Thanks!

We love Coach Elmer! He’s pretty good at making sure the kids are placed appropriately. His top sessions are the ones that are invite only so he will need to verify that your player is at that level (eg, MLSNext, ECNL level).

Picture 30+ kids on the court, three coaches trying to manage the chaos, and the head coach filming with one hand and coaching (kind of) with the other. If your kid isn’t already a mini-celebrity, don’t expect much camera time, the same handful of kids are featured over and over on their IG.
Yes, it’s intense but also confusing, especially for beginners. Nobody asked a new kids name, and honestly, I’m not sure they even knew we were there. It’s fast-paced, flashy, and maybe great if you’re chasing clout… but if you’re looking for real coaching and development, this probably isn’t it. Feels more like “content creation” than “skill creation.”

Why is the False8 guy so obsessed with video-ing. He's there to teach, not make a documentary.

Oh they are making one.

My favorite is you can tell the False 8 kids by their unnecessary arm pumping.

Why are you being an AH about kids who like to train there?

If it makes them a better player and a better teammate and elevates the game over all, im all for it.

Hell, my kid trains there so I am permitted to be annoyed by her arm pumping as well !

We have done 6+ sessions each.

Both are very good and will help a bunch. Both have gaps.

False8
+Fitness & Cardio
+Intensity
+Highly Skilled Kids
+Longer Sessions
+Decent Availability
+Decent Price Point ($40-45)
+No long term commitments
+Motivational Speeches
-Sloppy Reps tolerated/ unnoticed
-Lots of kids, 40 Kids -But 4 Coaches
-Hot, Humid Environments

Capstone
+Fitness and Strength
+Skill Groupings
+Smaller Groups (10 kids) 1 Coach
+Tacos and Beer Next Door in Arlington
+Controlled Climate
+More Learning and Some Fun Games
+More watchful Coaching
-Low Reps/ Weekly changes to skills programs =inconsistent results
-Less availability
-Pushes Pricier Training Packages

But, my kid has liked both very much and has improved with both. But my kid is getting more fitness with False8.
We would do either again.

Tacos and beer next door is key, tbh

No way - these kids are 9.

I remember an interview with Tim Ream who said “the overpriced small group training I got in a strip mall gym type thing as a 4th grader really made me the player that I am today”.

Kid did a False8 camps last week. Quality of instruction has gone way down compared to sessions from last year.

He was barking orders at like 60 kids across an entire field, kids so worn down, they were just going through the motions. Nothing new learned at all. Lots of little kids, lot of kids not requesting to go back.

Coaching from the assistant coaches is non-existent. All I heard them say was, "go faster & do it right." Thats not exactly coaching.

Also, it's getting clique-ish:
-Kids who go a lot, get put into the high skill groups and are featured on social media, called up for examples and highlighted.
-New kids... good luck. You won't be taught anything and you will be relegated to the low skill group and often ignored.

But I think they do some things better than most travel teams, which fills a gap in the market.

Clique or cult? Run the last posts through Chat GPT.
Also, I thought they didn't believe in futsal other than as a supplement but they are launching a program and you have to commit you will not play elsewhere? Money talks. Intelligence walks.

You have to take them for what it’s worth. False8 is creating a training environment, but not training your kids in the same way that a smaller group session does. You are getting fitness, competitiveness, and intensity. For Capstone, their coaches are good. I havent experienced their camps but we did small group sessions. The small groups felt squishy in terms of level of play, so my major concern was getting into a group that didnt challenge my DD. This is the same case with HP, but they have built my confidence that there will be enough players to challenge my kid. We went to the Capstone sterling location so perhaps Arlington has a larger player pool.
