Say anything to neighbor?

You’re being ridiculous and so is your overtly anxious child

Your daughter needs to toughen up, OP. You thank the elders for their hospitality, that's all.

She’s 12 acting like a 6 year old. Hire a sitter next time.

My 15yo is scared of being alone out too, pretty normal

That’s not normal! They’re going to college in 2 years FFS!

Yeah, it's just his humor.

You explain to her that old men can sometimes have difficulty relating to young women, and this was his way, even though it was awkward and seemed rude. If he kept engaging he probably likes her, but just kind of missed the mark. Tell her that you know how someties you forget about how hard it is to do homework (or whatever relates?). Well you're X years removed and he's 2X removed, so we are sorry but have to be empathetic to that.

Your 15yo is scared of being home alone for a couple hours in the morning, behind a locked door? That is not normal.

The people saying "that's just how old men are" are gross. "Boys will be boys" needs to stop. It's true that old men are often like that, but they are like that because we allow them to be, not because it's some essential feature.

Nothing better than teaching your kids that they never need to tolerate any one or anything that isn’t exactly to their liking. Shes missing the chance for a rich and rewarding relationship for her kid and the neighbors. I bet you’re the same poster who complains that there’s no village anymore. If you want a village, you gotta be the village and sometimes that means getting along with people.

My husband would say the same thing… and he wonders why the neighbors walk in the opposite direction when they see him.

He sounds like a good man. I hope you appreciate him.

No standing out at bus stops or taking walks alone.

This is nowhere near normal.

+1

I wouldn’t take offense to it. It’s just different generations and how different peoples humor work.
