Gross Things Your Parents Did

My mother never did anything gross. She was always proper. My father chewed with his mouth open.

We are way grosser today than in recent generations. There were so many rules that governed behavior and most things were taboo.

My mother literally went years without showering. I think there's nothing wrong with showering every other day if you aren't sweating, but she STANK. Like, I didn't want to hug her. She didn't brush her teeth before going to the dentist. She was a large woman and walked around in this huge, thin nightgowns. It made my brother and me very uncomfortable. When she would taste something off your utensil, she'd put the entire thing in her mouth and suck the food off, instead of having just teeth touch the food. When she'd eat a bagel with cream cheese, she'd take a bite of bagel, and then put cream cheese on the part of the bagel now exposed. She'd go through half a tub of cream cheese for one bagel this way. I've posted before about how she poured Ragu spaghetti sauce into white rice and told us it was Spanish rice.

My dad walked around in the tighty whiteys and his undershirt. Nobody wants to see that.

My mom and stepdad probably showered 3 times a week or so. My step dad was a doctor -- a freaking pathologist -- you would think he would have known better. Nope. Rarely, if ever, saw them wash their hands. I do feel like those silent gen folks did not shower enough.

Maybe he was filthy, but in general, there is nothing wrong or unhealthy about showering 3-4 times a week.

Well, the not showering every day was part of an overall lack of attention to being clean. Let's say someone uses the bathroom ... sh!ts ... does not wash their hands ... and then prepares a bunch of food with their hands. Do you want to head over to their house and eat it? No, I bet you do not. Still think it's "cute" that I think that I "know better than a pathologist"?

I grew up pretty WT. We actually lived in a 50ft trailer home on the outskirts of a small town. My stepdad was often drinking or drunk. On those nights, he and my mom were either fighting or f**king. On the nights they weren’t fighting the whole trailer home would rock and creak and you could hear skin slapping sometimes, etc. I’ve never told anyone about this. Lol.

My father was always scratching back or cleaning nose, little did we know that he had severe dryness issues as there were no obvious signs until he was diagnosed with an autoimmune syndrome.
