Gross Things Your Parents Did

Anonymous
What are some gross things your parents did? I'm wondering if some of this will turn out to be mostly generational stuff.

My mother drank from the carton/bottle/pitcher -- as in the big one in the fridge that was for everyone. She'd grab the 2 liter of pepsi, unscrew the top, and drink from the bottle, and put it back. Disgusting. Did the same with milk, a kool-aid pitcher, etc.

My mom and stepdad probably showered 3 times a week or so. My step dad was a doctor -- a freaking pathologist -- you would think he would have known better. Nope. Rarely, if ever, saw them wash their hands. I do feel like those silent gen folks did not shower enough.

not my parents but my kids talk about us.
-My husband occasionally uses my bath water.
-He licks his plate with his finger.
-He uses grocery bags as dental floss.
-We make travel arrangements and to get the cheapest flight, sometimes have to roll into town at 4 am and then work that day.

So many canned peas and canned green beans as the vegetable for dinner.

WTF. This is bizarre.

Maybe not gross in the sense you mean, but I HATED it when my mom would whisper in my ear, like in church, and I could feel her damp, hot breath. Gives me shudders to this day. And she'd get super mad if I flinched away from it. I've always been very careful not to do that to my kids, or even to breath too near their faces because my mom had some kind of digestive issues and always had sour breath.

Had s*x with each other.

Cheated on my mom and smoked. Mom neglected me and was a functional alcoholic. She drank herself to sleep most nights.

Already freaked out by some of these ...

At a certain point, my mom stopped using a kitchen garbage can. She would put a plastic grocery bag in the sink, fill that up, then throw it away.

I guess it may have been that she couldn't lift a big bag as she got older, but it always grossed me out.

My mom would burp often as she got older, most the time with an open mouth. Now DH is doing it and it's not attractive.

My mom liked to walk around the house in her underwear (if that). She thought that was fine because she didn't have sons, only daughters, but my sister hated it SO MUCH. I thought it was weird, but it didn't make my blood boil. It definitely wasn't sexual, she was just hot.

In general, I try to be understanding with my kids, and if they ask me not to do something (within reason), I oblige.

I have never once done that to my kids.

Dad would pour Hawaiian Punch into his beer. This is a man who was raised in Germany with German parents, for Pete's sake!

I asked my kids to lick the napkin first when their faces needed wiping but never used my own.

My parents didn't use garbage bags except when they took the trash out even in the kitchen can. They'd just dump food directly into the plastic trash can. It smelled terrible.

Most of these don't bother me though.

My dad would walk around in his underwear and he had three daughters. I think he was on the spectrum because he never would hve done that in front of nonfamily.
